  • @branwen true, but sounds like this is beyond typical and timely healing

@hamrack deffo would be a risk at 900 for six months, but very loose evidence because we all react differently. I took for granted people took these with food.

You should see the pile of meds every morning for a degenerative disorder like Ehlers Danlos.

@gillies take a good box or two with you, and continue to take them during the race on the lowest dose you can tolerate pain-wise. If you manage to heal at all by the time you start, you'll instantly aggravate it once you start racing.

  • Fro three bikes, a couple of my friends clubbed together and got this

It's super sturdy, but one thing to bear in mind (which I assume is true of most racks) is that you'll have to juggle handlebars - with road bikes / drops we have to take off front wheels so we can rotate the bars/stem to fit.

@gillies that sounds like a good reason - HealTFU and good luck for the ride!

  • Thanks @pdlouche - I'm still hoping it'll be fixed by the 28th - though I'm still not exactly certain what is wrong with it. Initially it was the outside upper part above the knee cap that was sore, then after a bit of rest, I tried riding and after 150 miles it was the lower left that was sore. Hoping that the stretching/rolling/exercises will help.

edit: and always taking it with food, for sure.

  • But your setup and fit on the bike is totally okay? This didn't appear because of longer rides, or change in some habit?

I only got shin splints when I pushed too hard with a heavier bike (saddle bag with clothes to Paris). Knee really sucks, can be setup related or just bad luck.

  • Pretty sure it isn't bike related as it started on my cannondale and continued/developed on my ti race bike, which I've had a bike fit for.

  • Probably a stress injury from training too hard (or increasing distance/whatever too much week on week), taking months to manifest. Good luck!!

  • Could be fit related on Cannondale and then lack of healing time aggravating it on TI race bike? Or a slight subconscious shift in position due to the initial injury

(hurrah internet bike fit / doctors !)

  • Could also be because the 'correct' fit is forcing the body to work against the way it was accommodating the 'wrong' fit for so long. Or basically what you just said.

  • Broken my finger? It's getting pretty fat.

  • You could have told me you were married!

  • Aargh.

    Who am I kidding?

I can't stay angry with you.

  • Fixed.

  • x-ray and you'll know

  • Well, apart from the finger.

  • Can I get an Instagram filter to do this?

  • I can't seem to find a dedicated cannondale thread, so here goes:

A friend has a 25 years+ old cannondale frame, I have asked him to take some pics to show, but am I right to think that cannondale frames come with a lifetime warranty? Especially those from that era?

I don't know exactly what the problem is but he said that the top tube had some cracks or small holes NOT as a result of any crashes, the bike shop at the time (some years ago) told them that the bike would just fall apart when making contact with some bumps etc... Is it worth him checking it in with a bike shop to see what can be done about it? He is happy to pay a reason amount to get it looked at / replaced etc

    This is the cannondale thread.

Edit: "Cannondale frames (except frames for Freeride, and Dirt Jumping bikes, see below) are warranted by Cannondale Bicycle Corporation, 1 Cannondale Way, Wilton, CT against manufacturing defects in materials and/or workmanship for the lifetime of the original owner."

So I guess you could argue the toss

  • PFPS

Do as the physio says. Ride through it. My understanding is that, although it may be painful, you can't cause permanent damage by doing so.

Edit: removed the link - realised it was a sample of the full thing.

  • Any pain when you move it?

  • Does your car have rails to fit roof bars too? If so cross bars are sometimes sold by Lidl and Aldi for under £25 and are good quality.
If not then a roof rack is the first thing to acquire. Search for second-hand on ebay and for cycle carriers to bolt onto them. A lot of people ebay their roof racks as "Vauxhall Astra roof rack" or similar which means you could miss out on one that would also fit your car. So check on Halfords website and search for their own and Thule's racks and see if the ebay "Vauxhall" rack is the same as the "Focus" rack and you could save some cash that way.

  • Additionally

"For any warranty claim to be considered, the bicycle must be brought in to an Authorized Cannondale Bicycle Retailer on the same continent on which the bicycle was purchased. The bicycle must be in assembled condition and accompanied by the original, dated sales receipt for the bicycle.

This limited warranty is void if the bicycle is subjected to abuse, neglect, improper repair, improper maintenance, alteration, modification, an accident or other abnormal, excessive, or improper use."

    And importantly

"Damage resulting from normal wear and tear, including the results of fatigue, is not covered. Fatigue damage is a symptom of the frame being worn out through normal use. It is one kind of normal wear and tear, and it is the owner's responsibility to inspect his/her bicycle."

I guess they'll tell you to jog on

  • Cheers mate, when I entered cannondale on the search box, I found loads of sales threads...

Issue now is just spoke to a LBS, it seems like Evans anc Cycle Surgery are the only dealers in the UK... and I don't even know if he could prove he is the original owner given the ages of the frame...

  • well it's not my bike so no loss there for me, he is willing to pay a small fee for an inspection and chance it... we shall see. I think it's an aluminum frame, so 25 years a long time, no? I have a feeling he's put the bike in storage for years and had he dealt with it there and then, he might have stood a chance...

  • Looking for a reputable jeweller to increase the size of a silver ring - any forum approved places - central ideally

  • Damage resulting from normal wear and tear, including the results of fatigue, is not covered.

    They're not called Crack'n'fail for nothing :)

It's not usually sensible to build aluminium structures so lightly stressed that they will survive >108 or so cycles, a number you could easily exceed on a bicycle if it was your daily driver for 25 years.
