  • Anyone know where to get some leather stuff embossed/stamped? London based.

  • Skully ;)

  • People stand up in front of a crowd and read their poetry.

  • I have decided I am going to build a "garden room". It will not be the classic type (single building that is just 1 wall. It will contain several small rooms with distinct purposes (2 home offices, 1 store room, 1 bike garage.

I have specific things I want to fit in each of these rooms, so I am looking for a fairly quick, easy, and cheap way to model it up. I'd then like to be able to show it to my partner easily so they can take a look and provide feedback. Working back from this will then determine how large the structure needs to be.

What software or website would be well suited to this? I've read of people using SketchUp in the past I'm sure, but just took a look and it is paid.

  • I've read of people using SketchUp in the past I'm sure, but just took a look and it is paid.

I found Fusion360 easier to drive than SketchUp, and it's still free for personal use.

  • Thank you so much, I will check it out this evening.

  • Possibly a bit of a left-field suggestion, but Blender should also work pretty well for this sort of thing and is completely free.

  • I’m quite old fashioned and my wife has no spacial awareness.
I made a cardboard mockup of our extension scaled the size of my children’s Playpeople. The bonus was they could play with it after

  • @mmccarthy actually I think Blender looks good from a few videos, will also investigate further. Thanks!

@Dibble yes definitely my eldest would enjoy playing with that once it was done with! I'm much more comfortable computering scale models than doing so manually. My wife would definitely do it this way if it were her making it, though. Thank you also!

  • Does it have to be London? @31trum could probably help and is Epsom way I think

  • Horsham, these days.

  • Paprika. The eyebrows would be too much.

  • I need four 70mm m5 bolts. Now Clerkenwell Screws is gone where's the go to place to pick these up in person in London?

  • Anyone else struggling with waxed chains in this cold? Fresh silca wax, normal method to run it in isn’t working,

  • Should be fine in the cold. Can you be more specific? What are you trying to do, and what is not working about it?

  • Thought that clerkenwell screws was still open but limited hours now.

  • I’ve waxed just under a hundred chains, but something is off about a Brompton chain that I’m trying to re-do.

I noticed the drivetrain ticking, and found several stiff links upon inspection. The chain hadn’t been used much, so I removed the wax with hot water, skipped the ultrasonic cleaner, rewaxed in a pot with lots of agitation, left to cool until firm but not fully hardened, ran the chain over my usual wax-loosening pipe a few times, stored it inside over night. Went to finish today and it was unusually stiff, and my normal loosening routine didn’t do a thing. Decided to loosen one single link by hand but even that took ≈2 minutes instead of seconds. Left it in a tray on a radiator and once it warmed a bit it was very compliant, but once it cooled again it became very stiff.

  • Hmm, the being fine when heated on a radiator but then not when cooled is very strange.

Based on my own experience, now approximately 4 years on only waxed chains, I've never had this.

My suspicion is that the chain may be corroded or otherwise damaged internally.

Potentially my next move would be to strip this new wax with hot water again and see if the issue is still there when the chain is cold with no wax on. If so, new chain time.

  • Belton and Slade , Wandsworth high street/ bridge by old Youngs brewery ?

  • Or try to find a downloader for Sketchup Make 2017

  • Would like to upload some pdf files to share and where would you recommend.

  • Perfect, my end of town too. Thanks

  • fold-up keyboards for tablets - are any of them actually usable?

I got an ipad mini recently with the aim of not taking laptop to client meetings coz its heavy and annoying to ride with. Ipad has been great for written notes and shit, but this week I'm going to need to sit down and crack on with some tasks and if one of those keyboards isn't terrible to use, it might help me out
