Liverpool Powdercoating and Track Ends

Posted on
  • Hey guys,

looking to build up my first fixie, have got a nice old frame that I'm going to powder coat and fit track ends to and was wondering if anybody had any experience or recommendations for the Liverpool area? I've had a search around and the only decent looking bike store that might be able to fit some track ends is Quinns. Can't find any useful info on powder coating in Liverpool. I'm probably going to be down in London some time in the next few weeks to see family, would I be better off waiting and getting a London bike shop to do the track ends and hit Armourtex? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Stu

  • What I was looking for was experience of people using these companies to powder coat, sorry if this wasn't clear. Will any powder coating place do cycle frames, will they have the kit to plug the bottom brackets and such to protect the threads?

  • i would assume so. . . just ask politley and im sure they would like to help. . . just tell them you need the threads covered and if they dont do it right its not the end of the world... you could go to a bike shop and get them to run a tap through it to clean the threads and also demand your money back and compensation for the frame! might be worth writing on a piece of paper that they agree to cover the threads properlly and if not you will be entitled to the full price of the bike/cost of powder coat back and get someone to sign it . . . its what we (at our school) do when anyone goes to get tempered glass cut cause they always do it the wrong size and say they did it right -.- thats why its best to have it on paper . . . so far people have always got it redone properlly if its been written down!

    Good luck

  • Cheers for the advice.

Has anybody any good experiences of a particular company?

Would really like to hear of some recommendations for getting the track ends done as I'm sure there's a bit more than simply slapping them on e.g making sure everything's in line and also would like to respace the rear triangle at the same time.

  • nice platini :) they look good, or as you were saying you are coming down to london - maybe try superted? im pretty sure hes booked up though from what ive heard. . . if your using a frame with horizontal dropouts why not keep them and skip paying £80 or so getting them changed. . . respacing your frame is prettye asy check sheldon for his article about it!

  • how about stove enamelling ?

Could try C and G finishes (0151 734 3088) on smithdown rd they have been going for years in fact they used to enamel for harry quinn amongst others, I was down there on friday and they had just finished a number of hetchins frames the detailing was crazy!

I used to go to a powdercoater in speke, little industrial estate behind the matchworks (goodlass rd i think) closed down for a while but i think it may have reopened under a new name (link below)

  • Weird, I was literally just about to suggest C&G, they did the paintwork on my Orrell and it's top notch. It's scratched to fuck but that's from years of track use, the paint is actually very resiliant.

And our avatars are almost the same - spooky!

  • heh heh they are very similar, white beards to :)

yeah its quite a durable finish they did some wire chairs for me a few years ago, been living outside in all conditions and they're as good as new

  • I spoke to some guys in Aintree a few months back, can't remember the name of the company, but they do loads of powder coating of motorbike engines and parts. I think they have a good reputation for doing concourse grade finishes.

They quoted £70 for me. A bit steep I thought.

  • Thanks for the info guys, heard this superted fellah mentioned before and have sent him a message. That other place is a bit out of the way for a carless person. Cheers for the info on the Liverpool spraying, doubt I'll be in London long enough to get both track ends fitted and drop it in for a powdercoating but shall see.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm orrell :)

  • Elite Engineering in Aintree will strip and powder coat a frame for £50. They have done mine and a friends with good results. Ask to speak to John and make sure he knows that it is a thin steel frame (if it is) and he will charge you £50. If he thinks that it is an aluminium frame (with large areas) and possibly will have filler smoothing the aero sections (like mine had) he will probably run a mile after the nightmare he had with mine. He done my friends in a few days too.
