My Chromecast TV wouldnt accept a youtube stream yesterday, but a YT app update fixed it. Never had that issue before (the error message was quite specific).

Sold my Chromecast Audio just before the bubble burst!

Interestingly I can still cast to my chromecast audios via the local media player implementation on home assistant but not via Spotify or the Google home app. I assume it's because it all works locally on my network without touching Google's servers. So they're not completely bricked, even if Google has decided to kill them off.

ChromeCast audio seems to work with youtube music. Actually it can see the chrome cast but says it's unsupported.

Youtube music is such a strange service, allows you to store something like 5 gb of your own music in the cloud for free, but aside from that I have no real use for this.

Came here about Chromecast. Super annoying my audio has stopped working too.

Is there a cheap alternative?

From the link on the previous page it looks like Google are apparently working on a fix - fingers crossed, they're handy AF - especially using the digital out if your amp has a decent built in DAC
