  • Seems like a decent port so far. Although it took an MGS amount of time before I was actually able to start playing. Between the EA account bollocks and the unskippable intro/tutorial.

  • Bought, thanks!

  • Hmmm. DII remaster coming. Very excited unless they don't add in the auto-gold collection.

  • Yeah. Pretty damn excited for that.

Hopefully I can get my hands on a series X too before it releases as I can't wait to play it on the big screen.

  • I have signed up for the Alpha. I am not holding my breath.

  • I started playing Jedi Fallen Order cos it's on the EA subscription thing. I really wasn't expecting to hear The Hu, Mongolian throat singing metal band, in the opening. It made me genuinely laugh because I was expecting some standard Star Wars atmospheric stuff.

  • Game dropped a PS5 restock and I am "more than an hour" from being able to see what they have!
    (assuming fuck all)

edit: sold out before I could get in, and I was on the site as they dropped

  • Are there any life changing games out on that generation yet?

I'm on the cusp of retiring from gaming, fed up with the annoyances in Warzone, tried going back to Apex Legends but it's just too slow, can't really face the grind of either of them.

Could really do with something new & exciting to re-engage with.

  • Probably not. I am keen to play Demon Souls again, but that's a jazzed up PS3 game.
My PS4 is on its last legs and I am loath to buy another 4 when the 5 exists (allegedly)

  • The Demons Souls remake is so good

  • Are there any life changing games out on that generation yet?

Not for ages. The only saving grace for me is the load time improvements, which are rapid.

Love how people think they're going to get passed the bots.

  • i got fed up with grinding those games, always pressure to play to make sure you get the most from battlepass etc.
I found playing some completely different games a good break - playing some single player story games that you can drop in and out of much more enjoyable at the moment. Maybe switch it up from the FPS's and see if anything pulls you in?

    Like?

  • Currently playing shadow of the tomb raider ('cause it was free) and enjoying it. But basically i'll have a browse of https://www.reddit.com/r/patientgamers and see if anything sounds interesting

  • another updoot for the Hitman series. such lols, and strangely calming.

  • ...MGS3?

Half-joking in that sure it's a 15 year old game, but one I still regularly revisit. Shadow of the Colossus is also in that boat.

More recently I've been re-hooked on Stardew Valley (the 15-20 min day cycle means it's easy to break away from at frequent points).

  • PS5 is not life changing, but worth it (at least in my case).

You definitely need proper TV to enjoy high framerates and HDR.

That combined with ultrafast loadtimes is amazing (finished Miles Morales and that’s basically load free throughout whole game).

Not many must have exclusives right now, but so many “old gen” updates with better framerates and graphics are amazing.

Control was absolutely spectacular with update. Didn’t stutter once in heaviest battles.
And haptics/triggers reacting differently to each gun was a pleasant surprise.

People are praising God of War which I’ll replay at some point too.

    It's gotta end one day!

I (almost) understood people paying resale prices at launch/ for Christmas, but now it's just silly.
Stop paying over RRP and let the fuckers flippers have hundreds of 2nd hand machines they cannot sell on.

  • It's gotta end one day!

    But does it?

As long as they keep buying them up, the prices stay artificially up. The demand is there. People want the consoles.

Look at Rolex, its been literally many years and no one has see an AD with a RRP sub. scalpers are getting them from the ADs backdoor for kickbacks.

Nope, this is not going to end soon. Not until the retailers figure out how to stop bot buying.

  • It's gotta end one day!

It will do but not for a while. There's a chip shortage which is hurting AMD and even when they're being supplied at full speed it'll take a bit for the factory to make enough PS5s to meet demand. It's definitely possible to beat the bots as a lot of websites are putting stock up silently but this means checking the websites manually all the time.

  • I haven't been a console player since the PS2 days (excluding handhelds in the form of the Vita & Switch), but what are the benefits of consoles over a PC these days? It seems that while in previous generations consoles had a lot more performance than an equivalent priced PC but that doesn't really seem to be the case anymore. Given the relatively cheap games on PC platforms when compared with consoles (at least from my view point) and the fact that the modern consoles really don't seem that far away from a standard PC tower in terms of size.

I'll give you that there are some decent console exclusives. Though the last console exclusive that I was interested in was MGS:4.

  • Even CeX is buying PS5s for £550 and selling them for £790.

  • Despite what youtubers say you can't match a PS5's performance unless you spend roughly min £1k, aim at only 1080 resolution (maybe 1440 for some games too) and don't care about ray tracing. That's ignoring the fact it's impossible to buy any kind of GPU at the moment and will be for some time. Oh and that cost is plus the screen (console assumes everyone already has a TV), keyboard, mouse etc.

This latest gen of consoles have some really smart things around streaming of data from the SSD which can't be matched by a PC game that also has to work with spinning HDs and non-PCIe SSDs, so if a game is made primarily for console the port to PC could potentially take even longer or suffer performance.

PCs do have access to cheaper games which is a definite plus, but I'm not sure that cost is recouped by the higher initial outlay over the 5 years before you'll need to spend more money upgrading it. A console will always play every game until the next generation comes out and even then for a while after. For £500 that's not bad for a decades worth of hassle free gaming.

    PCs are for powerpoint
