Reverse Brake Lever with Incorporated gear shifters

Posted on
  • Does anyone know if these exist? I run reverse brake levers on the bullhorns of my Rourke which has down tube shifters - I'm looking to move to bar shifters but would prefer something that was integrated into a reverse brake lever in some way - like STI's

Had a bit of a look around and havent found anything yet - so wondered if you lot knew of any out there, or had any better ideas of setting something similar up

    Cheers

  • you could try something like these:

    http://www.kellybike.com/2nd_xtra_takeoff.html

not as neat as integrated but it'd work.

  • you can mount your sti upside down on a bull horn.

  • Do your levers incorportate the plug at the end, or can you fit some TT shifters/Touring shifters in the end?

  • Change your groupset to Shimano Di2 :-)

  • I'm currently using the dia compe reverse brake levers - which incorporate the bar end plugs - I'm concious that I may need to change these - maybe reverse brake levers (without plugs) and bar end shifters are the way forward..
Those Kelly shifters look interesting if a little ugly unwieldy on the pic - would like to see some properly fitted -that pic doesnt really do them justice.

  • From memory- yours is a Dura Ace groupset?

    Is it indexed?

  • Yes, old Dura Ace, can't remember what speed it is (6 I think)
    and yes it is indexed

  • Had you considered mounting them on the stem with a band-on pair of shifter bosses?

    (If these exist!)

  • No, but if they exist, that could be an option

  • Clefty if you go the Paul route let me know- I'd be keen to get a brake lever and share the postage.

  • It means buying new shifters AND brake levers, and I can't imagine the brake levers are ideal, being offset - but this looks neat to me:

From our illustrious sponsors. £36 per lever though!!

  • Scott, do you reckon I could use my existing downtube dura ace levers with them? which would be even better as I wouldnt have to buy new shifters.
I'm liking it though, I ride mostly with my hands on the tops of the horns - so this could work rather well.
I like prav's idea as well, but rather pricey - and I like my current brake levers.

  • Nice one, going to do some more research tonight and contact Pauls. Thanks Scott!
Dammit- looks like I might be making an order!

  • Bon.

Mate of mine is going over to his house in NYC in November- if you can wait until then we could get the stuff delivered to him and he could bring it back.

Or we could just share the postage, that would be faster.

  • as long as the postage isnt too offensive, I'm happy to share it, just need to get one of those downtube shifter convertors sorted, and ply Jimbilly with cider to help me set it all up.

  • Have you had contact with the flame armed one?

  • No not recently, however I did get a text from Miss_Socks yesterday -
I also sent her a text about the bbq on friday - so hopefully they will be in attendance. I miss him and his ginger ways

  • I PM'd both Jim and Sam about the BBQ, hopefully they will make it.

Jim I need to weave his magic with a CXP30 and DA hub also.

  • Right, Paul thumbies and downtube cable bosses ordered - will post pics when I've got it setup.
    Thanks all!
