  • Dooks, nice music. reminds me of Stephen Duffy.

  • Always wanted a B-bender equipped Tele so I could get all Clarence White when the mood took me... Bloody pricey bits of kit tho'... Found an ex-Keith Richards Tele Custom that had one fitted in Vintage & Rare once (the old place in Earl's Court), only £750 (in 1989)... May as well have been £750m... Pffft...

how about an esquire with bigsby?

@ BQ and 31: thanks chaps. them's all just sketchy as fuck bedroom demos. cheers though.

  • I play a Fender Stratocaster, which I am rebuilding, it is a woodstain sunburst and I am fitting it with with brass bits and black plate and knobs, Sexy! This goes through a 50w Marshal.

I am also trying to master the bass, currently I have a Mockingbird through a 200w Peavy, I found the peavy too clean so invested in one of these

Sounds fucking ace. I can play Tom Sawyer and everything!

  • @ dooks: Not the same thing unfortunately... You don't get that sweet pedal-steel-type effect... Check out The Byrds' version of This Wheel's On Fire for the thing I'm talking about... Clarence White was a genius... RIP..

  • I had a really nice Guyatone top, which was a vintage japanese copy of a fender twin reverb ... ca. 1965. Loved it. Had to sell that and the 4x12 when I moved away from Germany.

    Those two:

The only thing left of my miserable attempts to play guitar is the guitar itself, which I got for my 18th, instead of a car. Similar to that one, with a bit more orange in the sunburst and single coils:

And do I use it? Nope!

  • i got a jap strat with a licensed floyd type trem and locking nut on it, looking to swap for a decent acoustic if anyone's interested. current value 350.00

  • @ Joe:

  • 'orrid!

  • I have a strat to sell too. Can't quite figure out what to ask for it though.

It's one of the first early 90s Mexican Standards. Sunburst, cosmetically pretty beat up (or nicely "road-worn" depending on your POV). They had heavy poplar bodies and really nice matt finish (now worn to bare wood) necks. Set it up the other day after it had spent three years or more under the bed without strings on. Electrics are fine, but it needs new saddles as the height adjustment screws have rusted into the existing ones. I'm guessing it's worth £175ish? I really don't know though.

  • My first guitar was an epiphone LP special II (with grover tuners though...it was amazing)
Then I sold it and got a squire telecaster (it was ok)
Then i broke it and got the ES355 copy in the last pic. Thats not me though.

  • 'orrid!

    Oi.

Dude, sorry i totally misread your post. I thought we were still on about bigsby's. I missed the b-bender ref. Yep I'd love one too but there is no way i'm cutting a big canyon in the back of my beloved tele.

And yes Clarence White = God-like genius. Sweetheart of the Rodeo is one of all time favourite records. In fact I've been playing "Christian Life" over and over again at home recently... not the solo though obviously.

  • I have a 1968 Fender mustang

It's a bit battered these days - I bought it really cheap when I was 16 in pristine condition and then didn't give a shit about it over the years playing live and then sitting in a garage. The picture is not my actual guitar, but very similar, and in nicer nick.

  • tasty

I like the idea of a B-Bender - Are they only used on Tele's? Never seen one on a strat, etc... Cool vid of Greg Koch using one:

  • greg koch is pronounced "COCK"

    i'm just saying!

that guy can haz widdly widdly widdly widdles and is funny in one very short dose. but he wears very thin very quick. i speak from experience. he's the guy that presents and demos all the amps in the cd that comes with that "soul of tone" book i mentioned in another thread.

    koch.

Ever noticed that all that stabs that Steve Cropper players in the verses are in the "wrong" key? Hey plays Bb over the home Fm and Eb over the Bb etc. Geniusly simply awesomely weirdly wrong. And now stuck in everyone's pop culture brain forever. That's what i'm talking about.

Love old wilco but i gots to say Nels is something special. From burn to shine:

Nels is pretty guitar nerdy funny too. Read his "amp du jour" journal. A detailed moany gearhead diary of touring with shitty loaner amps. (scroll about 2/3 of the way down).

and just cos i've gone a bit muso i feel the need for a bit of:

    nero fiddles while gordon burns.

  • I'm also experimenting with new pedals after years of using the same handful. I'm after a decent fuzz at the moment. Tried the Dano Cool Cat one last week but it just sounds like a metal distortion not a fuzz. It's up for sale if anyone wants it and other recomendations gratefully received.

    You want fuzz?

You want Dunlop Fuzz Face pedal.. it's good!

Pricey but a good sound, I'm sure one of the Denmark Street shops will have one you could try.

  • Most of my babies ;)

    Sorry for crap phone picture

  • Since then I've gotten another PRS Santana SE (Greatest bargain ever), a Collings OM2H, a cheap Ukelele and my two basses are missing from that picture... 16 in all :D

The Ibanez there is for sale though, in Classifieds at the minute if anyone fancies a butchers...

  • Holy cow! Out of curiosity, how many bicycles do you own?

    Most of my babies ;)

  • I want to get it fitted with a pickup so I can start using it for gigs without the dreaded clangy "woody" pickup but i'm loathe to start drillilng holes in it.

    Schertler

The very very best. (full stop)

  • If you want fuzz I can heartily recommend the Sola Sound Tone Benders, think Macaris still knock them out (they put them out originally way back when)... Used mine for years, I've been through loads of 'em... I had an original 70s one for the studio and a buncha others for gigs, all desperately need some TLC as none of them have worked for donkeys... Try: Supa ToneBender for trebly fuzz and the Jumbo ToneBender for a more bassy sound... Fuzz rules!

  • Ai.

I think as it's payday and the boss is off i'm going to pop up to Denmark Street and buy that Boss/Fender reverb pedal then bunk off the rest of the afternoon and sit in my flat playing pipeline.

Just rang Music Ground and Rockers neither of whom have it in stock though. Any idea who else might have it? What's the name of the place on Charing X Road, opposite the end of Old Compton Street? Is it Maccaris or something?

Ta for the pickup and fuzz tips.
