Nail varnish remover might work...

Abrasives will remove the satin finish, and while you could recreate it, it'd be a bugger. If you go the abrasive route you'll have to polish the whole hub.

just get some ultra fine steel wool. It will be fine ffs

thanks for the input, acetone (nail polish remover) didn't work. will possibly try very fine wire wool...

try the Brasso first though... might seem odd, but works well on other similar stuff.

I use a brillo pad, comes off easily and doesn't scratch anything either
