  • do you know the rules fred? and where's my CAKE!?

  • Shit, I'm just back from Cyprus and I only have those coconuty tube things.
    Shit.

  • mini cakes from turkey which are shaped like shells.

    They are fucking awesome!

Where you gonna be Wicksie? I want some cakes.

  • didn't they take medium format cameras to the moon?

  • Sorry Balki, I've made a food fail.
    Coconut tubey things only.

  • do you know the rules fred? and where's my CAKE!?

    hehe - do YOU? :p

  • Sorry Balki, I've made a food fail.
    Coconut tubey things only.

    hmmm...

I guess we're square cos I dont play Polo.

  • Shit, I'm just back from Cyprus and I only have those coconuty tube things.
    Shit.

you're screwed. you'll be lucky not to get ripped limb from limb.

    what were you thinking?

  • A holga does not have the same manual controls as (D)SLR and therefore they're non-comparable.
The results you get from these medium format films are entirely different from manual cameras because of their make up. Therefore they are not generally used for portraiture in a professional camera.
I'm assuming you know what a Lomography is so you're equipped to have this discussion.

I some how knew my request to take some 'snaps' wouldn't be a straightforward one.

i know exactly what a holga is and what lomo camera is. i just refuse to accept that vignetting, sharpness fall off, added saturation, lack of contrast, lens artifacts, uncontrolled flare etc etc = creativity or you suddleny become a better photographer when you use one. the argument that some people use of " it makes you take your time and think more about your images" is bullshit, just take your time and think more about your images with your 'normal' camera.
a holga placed in the hands of a monkey doesn't make a creative monkey.

  • :D those parasitic bastards are everywhere.

telling me! i live in fear

  • hehe - do YOU? :p

no, that why we have refs.

  • No cake, No polo.

    No polo, No photo.

  • Mmmm ... cake.

I never said you become a better photographer because you use a Holga, and that certainly is not my opinion.
As I said before, it was by way of explaining why I''m 'taking snaps' if I'm a 'professional photographer'. I simply meant it to explain that what I wanted to do here is take some photos for fun, rather than the (semi) 'professional' stuff I'm commissioned to do.

I don't think your rant was aimed at me, particularly as I haven't ever used that argument, but I apologise for hitting a nerve here.

I"m thinking I'll just leave it.

  • A holga does not have the same manual controls as (D)SLR and therefore they're non-comparable.
The results you get from these medium format films are entirely different from manual cameras because of their make up, making absolute control over your images impossible, therefore they are not used by professionals.

    Fixed :p

  • No cake, No polo.

    No polo, No photo.

    Hang on a minute...

So, if I come but dont play any polo, and also dont go in any pictures, can I still have cake?

  • I"m thinking I'll just leave it.

Dude, don't stress it, a bit of sarcasm and piss taking is par for the course here.
As Fred said, just rock up with your camera, get to know the guys, bring cake/beer/weed (or other appropriate polo related drugs), and start snapping away, they're a friendly bunch and i'm sure most won't mind.

  • The results you get from these medium format films are entirely different from manual cameras because of their make up. Therefore they are not generally used for portraiture in a professional camera.

all my medium format cameras have manual controls, and kodak portra is still kodak portra whether its 35mm or a roll of 120. that is until you creatively cross process it.

    Maybe.

  • that is until you creatively cross process it.

this is a wind up right?

Quite, I just said they're different manual controls.

  • This thread is bare LOLZ blud.

  • this is a wind up right?

I took it seriously. didn't you?

  • Dude, don't stress it, a bit of sarcasm and piss taking is par for the course here.

    Cheers James.
Think I'll still sack the photography and just come and drink, eat cake and be merry!
