  • yeah, i have a new job now and mirek is a love rat and would love the chance to hit on some southern birds

  • This all sounds really interesting, and a great way of keeping the scene going through the winter.

I haven't spoken to everyone in Oxford polo, but a commitment to travel to London to play all the games might be too much. We could do it if there were dates fixed well in advance, but I suppose that's what tournaments are for. I will chat to everyone and tell them to follow the thread in case they feel they can spare the time to it.

I wouldn't particularly object to it being a London only league, although if people are realistic about their commitment I don't see a problem allowing out of towners to compete.

See you at the BFF anyway!

At least one MCR team would be well up for playing if that's allowed? We would travel to London to play as long as it was at the w'end and we knew the dates well in advance. Not sure if this would work but we'd love to play in a league.

Sounds like fertile ground for a UK cup! This idea was was brought up between myself and Strom in Zurich last year, then thrown around on the ehbpc forum back in October.
Somebody (to be decided...) would start off as the cup holders. Hypothetically, lets say Malice (as the highest ehbpc placing UK team) hold the cup, they would then have to accept challenges by any other UK team to play for the cup. It would have to be on the cup-holders court of choice and the winner takes the cup. Hypothetically say that Netto beats Malice, the cup goes to MCR. Netto would then have to accept any challenges (first come, first served!) for the cup. Hypothetically, the Toffs beat Netto, taking the cup to oxford. So on and so forth...

  • So are us northern monkeys allowed in your posh league or what? ;)

Not with an accent like that, you're not, no. ;-)

I am happy to play anyone, but could you guys commit to coming down to London 10 times over the course of the league? I know my team would be happy to travel to MCR once at least.

  • but andy it would cost you a fortune, and you would be away from home two weekends a month.

    ?

I'd drive anyway, one team in my car, split the petrol = not that expensive. And we'd blow more than that on a shit night out in manchester. I'm well up for it.

I like this idea, whatever we decide about 'foreign' teams.

  • woohoo netto beat malice for uk champs!

  • I like this idea.

    +1

  • Hypothetically say that Netto beats Malice...

Swap JB for lockett and we will ;)

  • Swap JB for lockett and we will ;)

Ha! You're on the list now cat-boy.

  • meow :(

  • woohoo netto beat malice for uk champs!

No netto glory for you though, you big bearded traitor! You've moved to the dark side of OAP - Old Age Polo. I feel sorry for you dude.

  • 100% agree with both bill and Lal.

on the euro's are seperate from league thing, I don't see why. The league is surely a fairer messure of skill that a tourey? And having an extra qualifying league before the euros is frankley unfeasable (particularly with the number of teams there will be by then. Assuming that the euro's is a limited number of teams from london, and there are a number of teams contesting those place, and the team that won the league is one of them they should go through as having already proved themselves.

Also the precedence has been set with the first euro's and bad... really they went though because of their position in the league, wouldn't it be unfiar to the next winners of the euros to not get the same opportunity?

Anyway lets put it to the vote, unless anyone has a stronger reason for the 1st place not to go through than the two things are unrelated.

Oh and although I think both cambridge and oxford could almost certainly manage a team (if the two people who wanted to play really thought they could get three players together couldn't you get three players from those six to come down one week and another three the next?) I think in seriousness manchester managing to come down basically every weekend (remebemer theres talk of releasing a fixture each week) is unlikely... but if there's a fee to enter and they pay and can't make it, guess that's not really our problem...

  • i theoretically object to malice holding a theoretical cup. Unless it a cup of fur, iain playing so well with otters and all.

  • I know my team would be happy to travel to MCR once at least.

    who is now your team??

Snoops with who will you be playing if Netto is in????

  • Also the precedence has been set with the first euro's and bad... really they went though because of their position in the league, wouldn't it be unfiar to the next winners of the euros to not get the same opportunity?

dont agree, but a vote will resolve this between many other things

  • i really don't think three manchester players will be able to make the commitment.

like khornight said, if weekly fixtures are announced to deal with the amount of teams in the league, then netto would have to come down maybe 3/4 times a month. that is a massive burdeon on finances/family/friends.

as much as i'd love it to happen, it really isn't practical and i don't think these teams would last the duration of the league. i don't mean to sound patronising.

  • so Snoops you rather play with Bill

  • i really don't think three manchester players will be able to make the commitment.
    .

me and mirek can, just need to get adam on board. It's not definite, but it could happen.

  • well i've said to mark and bill that i will play with them in the league, and i have said to mirek and chan that i will play with them for the rest of the summer tourneys (the bff paris and london hopefully).

this may sounds a bit harsh, but wouldn't it be better for these other cities to concentrate on developing polo communities in their own areas rather than travelling major distances 3/4 times a month to London?

I know how hard it was in Manchester to get people playing and keep them playing but having the best players leaving the city so often and going to play elsewhere will hardly motivate newcomers? Just putting it out there...

    1. Should a ‘league’ night be specified? NO
    2. Would Triple fixtures work? we can give it a go
    3. Can Teams have 4 players, i.e. fixed sub … YES
    4. Draws vs Golden Goal to decide games Golden Goal FTW
    5. Do teams need Home courts? No, but 'home' team decides which court to play on.
    6. Should there be a limit on the number of teams? NO, so much inclusivity with the Euros but know we say no to our own people, and once the league is finish we will complain for not having competitive games, like last may
    7. Should there be an Entrance fee? no, what for?
    8. Should there be a Geographic restriction (i.e. ‘London’ teams only?) No. We can always rename the league.
    9. Does the league need or want external Sponsorship or Fundraising? Yes.
    10. Is placing in the league related to a UK Championships qualification or EUROS??
**No, a qualifier mini-tourney like last one will be the best to select the teams **
  • Polo is dead in mcr at the moment. I'd happily travel to London just to play some decent opponents. But, yeah it might be hard to get down for all the league games. Perhaps we can work on a uk league some time in the future though...
