  • Thanks for that - the two position seat-post is pretty cool. Though I'm not sure it offers that much of an advantage over an inline seatpost. I'd definitely like to test-ride one though, if I could find one in my size.

thats just so you can increase the effective seat tube angle to what is more like a TT bike. Unless you're putting aero bars on the bike racing time trials, you'd never use the forward position.

For what it's worth, i own the bike. It's a thing of beauty and the massive aero tubing looks really nice in person.

if you become more interested in the bike there's a lot of usable information on their site about the fit and construction of the bike. If you are more petite girl, i think you might even be happier on a Cervelo, as they give a lot of thought to maintaining correct geometry when getting bikes near the 52 and 50 cm sizes.

  • I can highly commend AnaNichoola. I bought some earings for the gf from them. Due to a delay in the supply chain they took a couple of weeks so they offered a refund on the postage. I politely declined as I didn't think that they should loose out. When the package arrived it had two extra pairs of earings in them. That is an excellent commitment to customer service and the quality of the earings seems pretty good.

Actually, my gf doesn't like one of the pairs of rings so they're going to be donated to the next lfgss associated competitive event for women (someone should let me know if I'm missing any right now).

  • There exist such things as cycling earrings?

  • took that pic in Chari & Co. NYC.

Ana seems nice and everything but I am struggling to see how anything on her website is designed to improve your performance on a bike by being specifically engineered for women. Same goes for Cyclodelic. They just look conventionally feminine and have been photographed next to pictures of bikes.

Not that it makes any difference because I don't think she's claiming anywhere to be making performance wear but I find it a bit weird and mildly annoying that Cycle Show are going on about how women friendly and inclusive they're being this year - but all the men's clothing on display will be aimed at improving performance and all the women's clothing will be, er, earrings and stuff.

  • There's a bit of an assumption that more women will cycle if only they can look nicer while doing it. It assumes that we're so essentially vain that we need to be distracted from activity by the presence of sparkly things.

Whereas in reality I am only distracted by kittens.

  • I don't think being distracted by kittens is necessarily gender specific.

  • sate your vanity and love of kittens with the stylish and slightly aero performance cycling lid.

  • Yeah, I'm not much of one for pink ruffles, but the kidney warmer looked like a practical idea to me as I'm tired of my back getting frozen when I ride my road bike in low jeans and a short jacket. I obviously wouldn't need it for training, but it fits nicely in to the everyday catergory of stuff that most performance-focused manufacturers don't cater to.

These are made out of a bearing and some shiny bits.

It's not so much of an assumption as it is a response to feedback. A lot of surveys elicit reponses from women (both cyclists and non cyclists) that they would like some clothing that is suitable for cycling but doesn't make them look like "A Cyclist" when they get off the pedals and go into shops.

It's a sentiment that I can sympathise with as well. When I'm off doing civvy stuff, I don't want to be wandering around that yellow or that blue or a coat that hangs wierdly over my ass but comes quite close to exposing my nipples at the same time. I also quite like to be wearing trousers that don't exfoliate my legs when I push off from the lights. I won't deny that I love cycling gear, but like bowling shoes and fencing masks find that they don't always rise to the occasion when used out of context. Sure there will be some women easily tempted by stylishness, labels and shiny but I think most of them would be quite happy with not looking like a pillock when nipping into HMV for the latest DVD. Sure we shouldn't care what people think we look like, but we do, all the time, often subconciously. It's vanity, but most of it isn't unreasonable. I think to those ends women should be supported in their support of a pair of jeans and a T-shirt that don't look like they would be better suited to those with a flat chest and man-hips.

Of course the first people to respond to this kind of challenge tend to be the more daring innovators and so their products will reflect that. Their products may not meet a simple demand but they will be ones to pave the way for the ones that do.

  • or a coat that hangs wierdly over my ass but comes quite close to exposing my nipples at the same time.

The trick with the coat/exposed nipple conundrum is to wear something underneath, I find.

I agree that functional cycling clothing's a good thing. I'm not madly keen on lycra either. It just gets a bit wearing when you go into and see a normal bit of kit with some crappy spangly thing attached for forty quid more and you intuit that this is supposed to make you spend money in their shop cycle more.

They just say that so it sells. It isn't really. ;)

    quality post!

  • Having looked at both the Cyclodelic and Anna Nichoola stuff at the Cycle show, I must say I was more impressed with Anna Nichoola for nice, useful stuff.

Also just seen this new Curve jacket in her autumn range - if thats made to order/measure I'd go for that!

  • Biketastic...

  • 'er indoors is taking delivery of this:

  • Has anyone ever seen an Adidas suspender skirt on a real person? I kind of like the idea of it for wearing over leggings for commuting, but never seen one in real-life, so a bit hesitant to fork out (though it is 50% off atm)

  • I kind of like it but....what is it?!
My mind is boggling. Is it like dungarees for cycling?

  • wow. Adidas have some crazy wierd stuff:

Yes, that's a 100% silk boiler suit with fairies on...

    And this:

Will give you 'an elegant silhouette'. O RLY?

But enough piss taking, I reckon there's some good wierd to be bought in there...

  • do they do a puffy shirt?

  • Oi! Jog on, missus!
Yeah they go one better: they do SILVER LEGGINGS.
    GET IN!

  • i love this adidas skirt. i have a dress that is similar to this on the lfgss poster. it has nothing to do with cycling but i love wearing it when i am on the bike

  • really they're very practical.
