Stolen: Yellow single-speed

Posted on
  • Tonight my bike was stolen in London, take from outside the Mary Ward Centre in Queens Square near Holborn. My friend has had a loan of it for 4 years so maybe it's not mine anymore, but I'm digressing. It was a yellow single-speed, originally a 531 Falcon frame but repainted yellow with a white head-tube, Shimano cranks and SLR brakes, Campag Omega rims on low-flange Campag Record hubs(different from the pic but everything else is as it was). She has grown very attached to it and was quite upset when I was speaking to her. I don't think the lock she had was upto much, a D-Lock and cable lock for the wheels.

I know it's a massive longshot and will check the obvious spots when I can but if anyone sees it, I'd appreciate it if they'd give me a shout or If you see it and can pick it up cheap I'll sort you out. Cheers.

    Tis

  • this sucks...
my eyes are peeled. will put a lock on it if i see it !
try brick lane is what every1 will say...
    best of luck anyway.

  • stolen where abouts?

  • There's a dedicated thread for stolen bikes, you'd get more exposure if you put it in there.

  • Didn't see that thread, adding it there now.

@ C.B. : Stolen from Queens Square near Holborn.

  • It's distinctive so there's some hope of a spot.

  • Sorry about your loss. :-(

-What locks were on it before it walked? And what was it locked to?
-Any ideas on how they took it/tools they used?
    -Any CCTV in the area?
-Were the police in the slightest bit interested?

  • The police weren't the slightest bit interested, she went to the nearest station but they fobbed her off, told her to fill in a form online. Not surprised really, when my Colnago was stolen from the 'secure' bike lock-up at Paddington station with 6 security cameras looking on they were unable to identify my bike being taken! At least they did fill in a form at the station though.

No ideas of the tools used, everything was gone. It had some sort of D-lock and a Kryptonite cable lock but I reckon a good bolt cutters would have taken the locks out of action. I've worked in a bike shop and most locks are remarkable easy to get through as I found when people lose their keys.

    Brick Lane Sunday me-thinks...

  • Bump!
The weekend is almost upon us and the scrote who stole it may try to pawn it off at some market or other. If you are offered it cheap and can afford it, I'll sort you out with some sort of reward :)

  • sucks man, hope it turns up today.... i remember seeing that bike whilst still locked up on my way to the docs which is a little spooky!

  • off to Brick lane today so will keep my eyes peeled for you

  • Cheers dudes and dudines/dudettes? No sign of it so I'm just going to use it as an excuse to build another. SLX Guerciotti perhaps? Why yes, I think I will :)
