Why isn't everyone buying IROs?
Even if a Crate last a year it's terrible value. For £400 you could get a bike that's worth repairing and could last a lifetime.

+1.
I've always liked the angus. fuck Create. they've tarnished a word i used to be quite fond of. -
• #1554
because usually people either know about bikes, so like to build their own and have a unique one. Or they want a "cool" "fixie" which means they just want to be able to choose lots of horrible colours.
-
• #1555
Note to self:
NEVER let "cool" colour a purchasing decision when not researched on a subject.

Carry on.

They're not now being well put together, the lack of quality control on those bicycle mean certain part might be more suspectable to failure, especially the frame.
It's only a few that were put together properly to make them last a bit but it doesn't make them better quality.
*They're not now being well put together? Like they used to be? Like if putting together shitty components properly would make any difference?
I can't really believe that this thread is still coming up and some people are still considering buying a create/unipack.
Frame is not the worst thing on the bike. It's all the components that are shit.
I hope that two post on this page won't encourage anyone to buy create.
I had only the frame, seatpost and stem left from original set up after few months.
Everything else needed replacing.Tires made of paper - holes after few months.
Chainset made of cheese - bent after few months.
Freewheel and bottom bracket got completely fucked up.
Fucked up rims - lots of punctures.
Saddle - don't even think about using that.
Pedals - noisy with the shittiest ball bearings you can findI remember ones getting some tubes in my local cycle surgery when the guys in the shop said that they're getting lots of people with punctures on creates.
Now a bit of advice from someone who actually tried and rode create.
Stay away from it and get some used bike. -

Perfect introduction for single speed riding for someone who was initially testing the water with not a lot of money to spend.
But £200 is a decent chunk of money, and £200 for something shit is a lot of money to spend! Plus you buy them off the internet, so you can't use the "oh but I wanted the easy option of going to a shop" excuse.
I'm going to roll this story out again...
My friend bought one, got sent two, sold one for £100, so the whole thing only cost him £100. He changed the bb, bars, stem, tyres, saddle, pedals. In total bringing it back up to +£200.
It is still going several years later after being handed down to a couple of other people. For his £200 odd outlay it has represented ok value. However, it weighs a ton and is still not very good.
Now with all the 2nd hand plugs/similar out there, there is no reason to buy anything like this ever again.

I thought they were always a mission to get hold of.

my create bike:
baught it second hand, didn't have a clue back then
Still have it as a polo bike- Forks did the splits (my fault, QR front wheel sliped out during a crash playing polo), replaced by a carbon fork (kindly donated and later stolen), then a pompino fork.
- Chainring is bloody heavy and not round, changed for a stronglight 38t
- Back wheels's bearings exploded, again, playing polo. replaced by equally heavy but much stronger novatec/DP18
- rear triangle is not straight, bending towards the drive side.
- Saddle is shite, changed straight away
So basically, what's left: frame (will soon die), seatpost (ugly), stem, handlebars (ugly), cranks (sugino touring).
If you have one, ride it till it dies, if you don't have one, don't buy one.One thing that pisses me off though is all the haters that indulge in the bad reputation of bad products, you have no right to comment unless you have some degree of experience riding/braking it.

Cedywedy
I know they are shit. I have seen them close up and I have seen them fail.
I do not need to own or ride one to make any comments about them.
Would you make the same argument that people can not judge rape or child abuse to be wrong or bad because they have not been involved in such behaviour?
Or would that piss you off as it's the action of a hater who should not indulge in such criticism because they have not directly been involved?
-
• #1565
Because that's such a close and appropriate analogy.

you forgot to mention hitler, dj.

Did Hitler molest you as a child?
Two wrongs make a right?
I am confused.

• #1568
He's just commenting that comparing the ethics of bicycle criticism to those of child abuse scenarios is verging on Godwinism. Also hysterically over the top.

I can spot a TIG weld with holes in it using my eyes. TIG welds aren't meant to have holes in them. Don't need to ride it to know that whoever's building their frames isn't very good at welding, for which reason I'm out even before all the other criticisms set in.

They're not now being well put together? Like they used to be? Like if putting together shitty components properly would make any difference?
yes, putting shitty components properly would make a difference, the difference is simply the longevity of the bicycle, instead of lasting two weeks, it'll last two months.

we had a customer who came in with a bleeding legs after the fork snapped on him - it was just two weeks old.
call us 'haters' if you like, but I'll still tell every living soul to stay away from those deathtrap.

• #1573
I'm clearly not saying that they are good bikes and there is enough real life testimony around to form a general consensus that they can be dangerous bikes so no need for people to boast that they know that these bike are shit, everybody does, no need to get scientific about it, it won't make you a better person.
Now if it's to keep this thread alive by bumping it, then fair enough, that's exactly what I was originally trying to do with my own experience. -

Yeah I have been looking at the Leader steel frame and I think thats what I will turn to next, I'm going to buy the forks and then the frame in a couple of months when I have a bit more cash. I should be able to have a decent build then ad currently it is just the frame that lets mine down.
Moral of the story is, don't buy one! It isn't just the components that are shit, the frames are too.
