De Londres á Paris

  • Myself and a few wheel minded friends are embarking on the London to Paris trek in August in aid of an as yet undecided charity. I've trawled the forum and we have our route but a serious clerical error has left us with nothing to ride. I only own one bike and I refuse to do it fixed as I'll be mighty cranky by the end, pun intended. Does anyone know where can we get geared up for 5 days at minimum financial loss?

    Merci beaucoup en advance

  • me and a few mates are also thinking of riding to france this summer, i will be doing it fixed so no help on the geared front i'm afraid. i'll let you know if we end up doing it dude

  • I'm riding to Paris fixed with a couple of mates the first week of Aug too! Can't help either with the geared question I'm afraid, but with a flip flop hub it should be more than possible.

I'd love to see what route you're planning, all I know so far is we're taking the Dieppe ferry, but am planning the route this Friday, will post the outcome on this thread..

  • As an xperienced francophile, stick to the 'D' roads is my suggestion. No traffic, often really direct routes, and a lot of the scenery hasen't changed since before the war (1914-18).
    Really friendly people too.
The 'A' roads are terrible... dangerous and overcrowded, as the French lorrydrivers avoid motorways to save on the tolls.
Everything closes between 12-2.30 in rural france.
    Have fun.
