I just ordered a 27 inch wheelset from the US, its Weinmann rims, Formula fixed/fixed hubs and DT swiss spokes, they were £120 new with the postage. They are coming from wheelandsprocket off Ebay.

Best of luck... most of the stuff on the bay is just single wall steel nos or vintage... I have just built with the deep V from sjs. it was realy easy. Truing is ok too without a stand, just use the bike frame...
Building isn't hard, you can htfu and do it yourself, or, dogsballs will do it reasonably, or, ehren_fried_chicken will teach you...

didn't read it properly, sorry!
Either way it shouldn't be that much of an hassle buying a new rims and track hubs (normal track hubs are fine), then get it build up by someone from this form for peanuts.

Get the bits delivered (from sjs or the oldbicylecompany) and take them to your LBS/wheel building friend. That's what I did with my first 27... (just got rims and hubs, got LBS to supply rest)... It's hardly anymore effort than getting something ready built.
Failing that get the geared set and a replacement hub and get your lbs to change out the hub on the back to fixed.
You'll be very lucky to find a good fixed 27 wheelset built (just do a search to find other threads about it, there's about 4 a week), so get one built.
As for tyres I've been getting mine from my lbs. And you can get more from sjs/oldbikeco, tubes you can stretch a 700 to fit 27s (in fact some tyres can be stretched onto 27s too!) it's really not that hard, and if the frames built for 27s I think it looks nicer when running them.

Ok, its seems the consensus is that I HTFU and get it done myself which I am willing to do obviously cause the wheels are gonna looks da sizzle. BUT:
1) the reason why i wanna run the 27 is obviously clearance issues, which are shiat but i love the mercian, so i shall keep.
2) as i originally asked: do you guys know whether running 27s vrs 700 is a considerable annoyance and significantly higher cost for sourcing tubes/tyres
3) since i havent ever actually compared the size of a 700 vs 27 i dont actually know whehter the achievable difference will be sufficient to splash the dosh. I am running 700 on it at the moment but my long term plan is to run it as a tourer (gears etc) in which case the fixed hub will have to leave etc.....balblablab.so,
how annoying/expensive is it to run 27s? (sorted)
is there any legend in this forum that could lend me some (eg a front) so i could see the difference, subsequently get impressed/annoyed and buy/forget about them immediately.
does anyone wanna suggest decent/inexpensive hubs - ed i know that you are running miches what do you think of P!Mps formulas by comparison. Looking to spend around 120-160 max for the set of wheels.

I am just curious to see how mine looks and rides with 27s, this is what they would have worn originally. As for tax I didn't have to pay any last time I ordered wheels from this shop in America. I'll keep you posted when they arrive. Formula hubs are okay, nothing special but my bikes only a beater, obviously its skys the limit with hubs and rims etc, if you are on a budget maybe getting cheap secondhand hubs and getting someone to build them up for you is a better option?

Ok, tyres etc. there is (obviously) a smaller range... check sjs and the bay... both are a good source. They are also a bit more pricey than 700C. You can buy 27" inner tubes, but I just use 700C. Works fine...

hey guys,
it's generally in the title. Wish i can find something with silver rim/silver hub and achieve a traditional/vintage look. Any suggestions? Also do you know how much hassle it is to run 27s, like tube/ tyres sourcing etc. Know that sjs stock 27 rims but was looking for something already built.
