1 - Stretch tubs on wheel 24hrs
2 - First layer of glue on tub and rim 24hrs
3 - Second Layer of glue 24hrs
4 - Stretch tub on clean rim 24hrs
5 - Third layer of glue, fit rim to tub, pump up hard, wait 24hrs, job doneThis is what I've been doing with addition of rolling the wheel along a broom handle before finally inflating the tyre to expel any possible bubbles/voids between tub and glue on the rim and get a really good contact.
I read about a really extreme tub gluing method for cyclocross that uses glue and tape but they need something extra strong as so much lower tyre pressure keeping tub on rim.

I've got a tub of some really strong stuff in the shed. You had to cut the tub to get it off. You really didn't want to get it on your fingers

Bit late, but another recommendation for Vittoria Corsa Evo CX's. Even at 9-10bar on a aluminuim track frame they give you the tubular magic carpet ride. Downsides - They're not so grippy in the wet and cut up easily on glass.
I take Pit-Stop, spare tub and tape. Even if I have to tape the spare on it doesn't take that much longer over a clincher puncture

Just want to make sure before I get started.

Sorry, should have been clearer - rim and tub.

Prety much every guide I've looked at has been equally as vague.

I took my technique from this thread on fixed gear gallery, it goes into a little more detail:

To be honest, that would've been the last place I looked for mechanical advice.
Thanks though.

I've been looking at the frames from that ebay carbon shop that Dammit got his rims from.... they have been somewhat tickling my fancy....
Would it be possible to dodge customs on a package of such a size if it was merely marked down to £40?... Seems unlikely. -

LOL I make you right, but the post I linked to was pretty sound tbh.

It's not that extreme, I did it.

A Malaysian seller sold me a camera like this - as an item being returned after a repair.
For eBay seller who deal on a large scale is not really a smart move to try and underestimate the value of sold items, as the taxman will bite them hard eventually.

Three coats on the rim, one coat on the tub.

When putting the tub on the rim I do it in my socks - get my toes right on the rim to hold it down while pulling the tub on. I guess I'm alone there
-
• #292
I use my knees to pin down the bottom parts of the tub I already put on the rim and stretch the remaining part upwards. Obviously it works better with the tape.

I've ordered 3 of the Corsa CX, ShinyBikes at thirty-nine quid each seemed to be the cheapest.
As it isn't been mentioned yet, I'd thought I'd best mention Corsa CXs have latex inner tubes and will deflate over time. Make sure you take a good pump with you on your holiday.

No wonder my tubs have shrunk so much...

For those who are interested:

http://link.marktplaats.nl/428797193This guy is selling 2 pcs black/tan and 6 pcs red/tan.
He's trying already for more than a year but it seems that nobody is willing to pay his asking price.
I must say that the price is too high for a good bargain, but it's still cheaper than you lowest shop price.
Of course you have to pay postage from NL.
If you don't want to place a bid (starting price is too high), you can still try to send the seller a PM / email with an indecent proposal. -

I always wondered why mine went down. Everyone else I've asked said that I had a slow puncture

But many thanks for the link- I may need it yet.
Now- I need longer valve extensions- the current ones will never clear 56mm rims.
Is the only option to pay the quite frankly silly £20 that Vittoria want for the 80mm valve extensions?
-
• #298
Pro lite from Chainreaction were £8 a pair but not in stock, but the Conti ones probably would be fine too. You only need 30-40mm extensions as your tub would fit a 20mm depth rim no problem
-
• #299
Could you not use temp extensions? More aero but no good for fixing while out on the road.
-
• #300
Would it not be best to get the Vittoria extensions rather than putting an extension on the extension?

See, this is what I always used to do, but then I've been told elsewhere that it could damage the tyre. Sod it, I'll give it a go and see how I get on, otherwise I'll never get these buggers on.
My old man always used to swear by leaving tubs attached to a hook in the ceiling with a large tin of paint hanging off to stretch it out for a couple of days. Not sure I'd be wanting to do this on anything more than crappy training tubs tbh!
