Redefinition... if you happen to be very near Gants Hill even better... as I have to leave in a moment and that's the direction I'm going.
(one turned up, but it's in Mortlake and I can't make the round trip in time on a BMX and don't want to leave Fizz waiting on the street).

We're back safe and sound. I rode a BMX up there for Fizz to ride back, and then I rode her bike back.
The hub and stuff are all fine. The problem is the Surly Singleator. It lost it's tension because there is a little nut on the inside that tensions the spring and it must've been gradually working loose until it just gave up totally.
So with a severely slack chain, it was just jumping over (and off) the cog. She fell off when it happened but the only thing hurt is her pride (and a possible bruise on the elbow). But the real kicker is she had to walk up Gants Hill with it like that.
Anyhow, just considered it a suicide hub... re-adjusted the singleator so it was at least on the chain again, and then coasted down Gants Hill and pretty much all the way to Chiswick Roundabout.
Tomorrow I'll buy a 18mm cone wrench, but now I'll also consider the spring-less Rennen for chain tensioning instead.

there's a new tensioner on the market. american thing that the guys showed me in moose cycles.
looked very neat as it fitted round the bb. i guess you need to be running external bearing cranks as the mount replaces one of the spacers.

... does anyone in West London have an 18mm cone wrench I can borrow for the next hour.
A component failure has stranded my girl and I'm going to ride up there, but lack the tool to do the job.
