Headset - what size do I need?

I've looked on Sheldon Brown, youtube, have googled and still can't figure out what to measure to determine what size headset I need to buy for my frame. 1" or 1 1/8"?

Btw, it's a Joe Waugh, don't know the year but probably 80s, if that helps.

if its the 80s its almost certainly a 1" headtube

Thank you, sir, that's what I thought but haven't been able to find a definitive answer, not knowing the model I own.
