read the number on the cab license plate (not the registration plate) repeat it back to him.
they usually calm down after you do this. -
• #3
ok, where abouts is that? next to the license plate? only on the back? who is it you need to report them to? what happens, if anything?
-
• #4
nothing happens if you report them, best off taking it somewhere there's no CCTV and kicking the cunts teeth in so hard he shits them out in the morning
-
• #5
WAC - shame you didn't get his no. and report the fucker.

Report it to the police. Its dangerous driving AND reckless endangerment. Be serious about your report, and ask for CCTV to be recovered to show what happened. The fact that your life was threatened should be taken seriously by the police. The taxi-driver may not be charged, but he would be warned. If he does it again, he WILL be charged.
Its happened to me, but I laughed. The taxi-driver put his life in danger more than mine, but he didn't know it.
EDIT: If CCTV shows you, it will show him.

Tapping on the window (even lightly) = making physical contact with driver's extension of his own ego = attempted mind rape.
I don't touch cars with my hands anymore; it always teases out the latent psycho.
A similar thing happened to me the other day. We ended up stopped next to each other at the lights. I waved to get their attention, and then mouthed 'GIVE ME MORE SPACE, PLEASE', and did an obvious hand/arm signal indicating that I was talking about the distance between us.
I got away quicker when the lights turned green, and to their credit, the driver took a wider path when coming past me. Not always going to work, but you've got to give them a sporting chance...

Report him... Why do black Cabs thinks they rule london's Roads??? I had some prick cut me up this morning and when I get close to him again he is on his mobile phone!
on another note ... I wonder if there group will still be paying for tv adverts about the risk of rape in mini cabs.......

can't report him directly as i didn't get his number. think i might go try and talk to the coppers tomorrow. which is the correct cop shop for ec1?
-

Wouldn't it be Snow Hill for the roads you described?

Sorry to say it, and I'm not dismissing the incident, but without even a reg number what's the point of going to the police? You weren't injured, the bike's not damaged; what are they really going to do?
-
• #12
Even with all the details most cops don't give a shit if you're not injured.
-
• #13
They might do an aesthetic critique of the little sketch you have to draw on the form.
-
• #14
hahaha, yeah i'm inclined to agree more bother than it's worth. however i'm sure there will be cctv showing his plate number as he comes up the hill. whether they can be arsed to actually look for it is another matter.

Will, if someone shoots a bullet at you, and it lands near you, and you weren't hurt, would this be a crime?
I say report it. The time and places are known, so there will be a chance CCTV captured some of it.

Well, had someone used a gun then yeh, on balance, I'd say go to the police. But only if it was a big gun.
Thing is if I reported every incident of this kind that I experience I'd be in the cop shop at least once a week so I guess I am just used to it. It still angers me but what can I do? Take every post about bad driving, bad roads, stupid policemen, unjust fines, bad weather, bad luck, the whole enraging experience of cycling in London that gets put up on the forum every month and you have an average week in my job; sometimes an average day.
If you have the time and energy, and the optimism to think it'll achieve anything, then go ahead. But I think you are wasting your efforts. -

If you are planning on going to the police and want it looked at as an attempted assault then I'm not sure if it works the same way as in the "what to do in case of an accident" thread but that thread is worth reading. It may be worth mentioning to the police that you want it looked into as a criminal offence, not a traffic offence.
I'm sure there's someone on here that knows more about these things than me.

at the end of the day it is just escalating a situation more than needs be, i was already late for work and there are loads of cameras there. i'd be screwed if i got an assault charge.
Bingo. My sympathies though mate - glad you were unharmed.
A white van undertook me at speed on Fri on Ken High St with only about three inches to spare. At the lights, I pulled up alongside the driver - a kindly-looking old gentleman with a silver beard - and said 'are you trying to kill me?', to which he responded 'get off the roads you cunt'.

i had exactly the same thing happen to me a couple of months ago (except it wasn't a cab).
this guy is taking up the whole of the asl (the green bit for bikes) at a red light, so i just ride past and stop in front of the cars (not directly in front of them, just further forwards and to the side a bit). as the lights change, this guy slams down HARD on the accelerator and screams past literally inches from my rear wheel. i shout something along the lines of OI! and wave my arms a bit (i wasn't swearing or being offensive). they guy then slows down, winds his window down and starts mouthing off at me for shouting. i say that he just nearly hit me, he says that i shouldn't have been in front of him, to which i reply that he was in the green bit where he shouldn't have been and that the whole point of the green bit is to put the cyclists in front of the traffic! he then replies that he wouldn't go in the green bit if i started paying road tax! at this point i just told him to fuck off and turned away.
the guy then swerves towards me TWICE and then drives off in front. we get a bit further down the road and i notice that he has pulled into a side street to wait for me to cycle past. he then pulls back out onto the road directly behind me and starts accelerating. at that point i just got off my bike and decided to walk for a bit.CUNT!

Pretty much, and even if it were true, 1500kg vehicle vs. 10kg bike? Which one do you think damages the roads more?

I was accidentally going up a one way road in the wrong direction around soho square and this dirty cabbie on the bottom of the road sees me, accelerates badman fast- i.e playing chicken with me so i swerve into the curb so that im hitting my left pedal on it on every stroke, he winds down his window and shouts CUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT into my ear.
Now I know I was going to wrong way but he had plenty of room on his left and could have avoided me or given me enough time to get off the road, or not shouted 'cunt' in my ear.
OH and 2 days ago, a car was parked in a bus lane so I was tried to go around it, Had a people carrier beside me which should've slowed down to let me pass as I was infront of it, but no, he speeds up so fast that I get sandwiched between the two, get tailwhipped by the shitheap, go head over tits straight onto the floor. pick my shit up-run over to them ready to batter some windows and shit (I assumed it was some dirty kev in a stolen car trying to dragrace me)......window winds down

"were ever so sorry dear I didnt see you" da ho
"I saw you wizzing past but I didn't think you would try to go around that car"-da pimp
-"....................."-mewas so so so angry but couldn't bring myself to shouting at them, or even telling them to drive safely.

Simillar thing happened to me the other day going up pitfield street. I was riding at traffic pace, and a mini cab tried to over take. I was, fair enough, riding in the middle of the road, but there isn't that much room for over taking, it's one way street, i was near to going around a roundabout and like i said, i was riding at traffic pace anyhow. This minicab started beeping like crazy, and I just put a hand out to like say, hold on, at which he got crazier. He then proceeded to stall at the roundabout, I jeered and rode off, and he came round the corner, fully pacing it and driving into the back of me. Had to hop onto the pavement and nearly hit a couple of kids.
The guy then tried to get out of the car and grab me, I called him a dangerous C*** and managed to get into my halls, but the security still had to stop him from getting in. Seriously though. What is wrong with these people?
comlete fucking wankers.

Still slightly raging from this morning when some cabbie tries to run me over on purpose, TWICE!! Cunt!
I was heading towards work and this black cab zooms past me with inches to spare on long lane. I catch up with him at the red light on charterhouse st at farringdon road going up towards holborn circus, tap on his window (pretty hard to be fair) and tell him to try leaving more than 6 inches when overtaking a bike. to this he mouths off and tries to drive into me while i'm stationary beside him.
the lights change an i take off taking the lane. he chases me and tries to drive me off into the right, again (more at speed this time.) then tries to take a swing at me and get out of the cab going on about how i was "riding in the middle of the road on purpose"
so i'm like, yeah and i'm allowed to read your fucking highway code you prick. blah blah blah, more abuse and he drives off.
all of this time he had two passengers in the back!!
as he fucks off and i head round the corner to work fuming, i start to think about how close he was and actually what he tried to do. actually try and aim for me with his fucking cab!
fuming... i won't fight unless i have to but fuck me i wish i'd twatted him through his window or just put my bike down and taken him on when he told me to "come on then" and started to get out of his cab.
at the end of the day it is just escalating a situation more than needs be, i was already late for work and there are loads of cameras there. i'd be screwed if i got an assault charge.
would it count as self defense since he effectively tried to attack me with his several tonnes of vehicle?
WAC!!
sorry bout the long post.
