  • No sweat, you didn't get a metallic blue arena a bit later did you? I did!

  • Ha! No way!

Met blue Grifter MkI, then a Viscount Colorado GT. 10-speed. Count 'em Arena Boy...

  • Yeah, got a red grifter after the yellow chipper but then it went a bit downhill with the arena and was ok for a bit with a yellow mag burner but finally surfaced with a nice chrome silverfox:-) Is there a 'bikes we once owned' thread?

  • I broke my collar bone trying to get up an almost vertical ramp (plank on bricks!) on a Grifter aged about 11 or 12 - Grifters are indeed very heavy!

I always wanted a Bomber myself!

the bomber never really bombed i remember my mate purbrick trying to jump over the remains of a honda c90 we set on fire. we'd all done it on our bmx's but sadly with the weight of that raleigh he never had a chance.
still brings a smile after all these years.

  • i think i saw one of those Bomber at the Battersea car boot about two weeks ago it was white and gray ss version, it had already been sold for £7. saw the bloke out side who bought it and he said he would sell for £30 notes...i was half tempted.

  • looks awesome. bomber... never heard of it before now though. my mate had a boxer, battered and heavy as fuck. i had a raleigh alien. rad shit. wanted a vektar more than anything.

  • I still wonder what happened to my weird old early MTB, apparently dates from 82 or 83, I was riding it happily in up to 88. Check out the bars.

  • blimey, those bars a Tioga T-bones. used to have a set myself.

  • Only just seen this thread.

The person who took the photo held onto my can of Stella for me.

  • raleigh burners a classic!

  • yep, it's all about the burner! I had one with suntour hubs, blue anodized rims, blue anodize suntour stem and victor pedals. was fucking awesome!

  • I had a Bullit/Bullet, can't find a pic of it anywhere though.

I went over a tiny jump on my mates bomber and bent the forks so much that the front wheel wouldn't turn.

Burners FTW! I have the black/gold anodized ultra burner. Heavy as sin, but a great cruiser.

  • i got a super burner as a Xmas bike it was the best Christmas EVER. in fact i dont think i have had a pressie at Christmas that took my breath away and brought me as much joy as this bike :)

I have two sat in my warehouse and will be for sale soon but not for beer as they are in pretty good condition just in case you want on let me know. Thats if this one has gone. Which looks like it.

  • Enter: Wildcat, i was one very proud owner. Having a bike with sound effects, for a 5 year old boy, is like discovering that Father Christmas is in fact very real and that he actually shits choco Mr Whippy's AND, because you've been so good, he is going to give you the electric guitar come raygun come hoverboard you always wanted.

  • all bikes aspire to the vektar.

a grifter forum, for those not ready to let go their youth:

  • if this stuff tickles your fancy try rebuycycle.co.uk loads of restored and vintage stuff there

  • I still remember the Raleigh Stryker we (my bro and I) used to have. Was almost a family heirloom untill the handlebars snapped off when I was riding it.

My Bro riding it in something like 1985 I'd guess.

  • i had a grifter ,this thread brings back a lot of happy memories
