  • Almost on level with the German GP

  • So glad they finish the season at Abu Dhabi instead of Brazil these days...

I can't believe they're considering dropping Interalgos from the calendar!

  • Also, fair play to Hamilton for admitting fault with the Albon incident.

  • Sainz P20 ->P3

    !!!!!

  • Lol @ seb again. He's a fucking liability.

Fingers crossed his time is over in F1.

  • Fingers crossed his time is over in F1.

Personally I'm in two minds about that. He definitely seems way past his peak in terms of raw driving ability. But he and Hamilton are doing a great job of cutting through the media bullshit thrown at the drivers (especially each other) which is great to see. Would like to see him remain in the sport for a while yet.

Ferrari need to chuck a solid number 2 driver in with Leclerc if they want any hope of getting back near the top. I think they could do much worse than chucking Hulkenberg in there.

  • I think he's laughably bad at media.

I think he sulks like a spoilt child; yesterday was a perfect example...
He caused the crash, refused to talk about it (apart from to blame Leclerc) and stormed out of interviews. Meanwhile, Leclerc took the adult approach saying they needed to work through it for the betterment of the team etc.

  • It's funny how Leclerc comes across as the mature statesman, and Vettel comes across as a petulant brat.

  • It's quite nice seeing things like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yHR4M4UrM8

And possibly my favourite comedy interview moment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlFt_W4664M

I haven't seen him storming out of interviews personally, this is the only interview I've seen so far (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhYXa0jXwlA

) and they both seem pretty mellow about it IMO.

  • let's not let anything get in the way of a bit of driver bashing...

there was a great comment on the guardian about this being a proper troll-fest of a race: ferrari meltdown, hamilton crashing and verstappen winning.

  • Just watched the last race of the MotoGP season there. Honda winning the team championship with 458 points to Ducati's 445. 420 of Honda's points were scored by Marquez.

That guy is a ridiculous talent.

  • Just watching the Brazil race now on the C4 player, it's been good so far.

  • True! Great if you're a Marquez Fan but this season has been a drag. Reminds me quite a lot of both Doohan and Rossi at their peak. Bluntly Ducati need someone with Stoner levels of talent and Yamaha need to get their shit together. Being fast at certain tracks in qualifying and in clear air doesn't cut it.

That said, IF yamaha can address the power deficit by half and work on the electronics to get off the corners and hold the tyres better and Honda don't make any huge strides, I think Quartararo will keep Marquez a bit more honest next season.

  • Quatararo is looking like a promising rival, something Marquez really hasn't had for a long time.

While the season standings do make it look like a complete walkover from Marquez, the majority of the races were still fantastic to watch. Especially when compared to a dominant driver season in F1.

Apparently his brother is going to be racing alongside him for Repsol next season. That seems like career suicide from Alex IMO.

Fingers crossed the Yamaha is a better match for the Honda next year, and that Suzuki can keep up the progress they've made over the past few seasons.

  • I'd say it was the usual mix of good and boring races....pretty apparent from early on the only person that could lose the Championship was Marquez though.

I'm definitely interested to see how Alex gets on - I don't reckon he has the raw talent of his brother. Perhaps a clever move by Honda to keep Marc happy for new contract negotiations next year. I have a feeling that Marc will want to win with another manufacturer at some point and '22 might otherwise be a good time to do it. As an aside I think he could have won it this season on the Ducati but probably not on the Yam or Suzook - would have been a much closer fight though.

  • Caught up on Interlagos last night, rarely fails to deliver which makes it even harder to understand how they can consider removing it.

I'm also struggling to understand how people keep singling out drivers as being better or worse as handling the press. I can't recall a driver at the top that hasn't acted like a massive bell-end when things have gone wrong for them. Lewis was all over the place in interviews after his first two seasons at Mclaren and i think the public still haven't moved on from that. Seb can throw his toys out of the pram in the moment but is still someone i like listening to when the dust settles. Charles and Max are handling things well but there's already people calling them either cool as fuck or spoilt brats, pretty sure they're both at times.

On that 6th title, it was either a master class of driving by one of the best modern day drivers the world has seen or a inevitable outcome for an average driver in a really quick car who has no right to call him self British as he moved the Monaco with all the other past Brits...

  • which makes it even harder to understand how they can consider removing it

I believe the decision to stop hosting it is currently being made from the Brazilian government, not the FIA. Which is a bit more understandable. Still seriously hope they come to an agreement though. I'd say it's currently the most consistent track in terms of providing great races.

Agreed, I find myself dipping between "Hamilton has shown some serious class this week in terms of discussing x, y & z" and "Oh, Hamilton's back to being a whiny little shit again". Also, it can differ hugely depending on the driver's current season. I loved watching Vettel stir shit up in the press conferences during the Hamilton/Rosberg years, but yet he's a very different person when he's overdriving and messing up his own championship chances.

I think there are portions of both of those that have some merit! He's undoubtedly up there with the greats (as are Alonso & Vettel IMO), but he's also been driving a car which is even more dominant than the early-2000s Ferrari. While people may be quick to dispute me having Vettel as one of the all-time greats, he did win his championships in years where multiple teams had a chance.

  • Agree on Alonso but not so sure about Vettel. If i remember correctly 2 of those 4 seasons RB showed similar dominance to the Mercs but ultimately i'm basing my opinion on the last 5 years. Too few moments of brilliance, way too many mistakes.

  • There were definitely 2 years that the Red Bull was the best car on the grid, personally I wouldn't put it at the same level of dominance as the current Mercs. But then again, Alonso seemed to be massively over-delivering so it's hard to judge.

The other 2 years were probably the two best championship fights since I started watching in the early 90s.

Don't think anyone will disagree that the past few seasons have been pretty horrible for him. Personally I put it down to overdriving too often as the relative performance hasn't been there in the Ferrari for the most part (despite what Merc or SkySports might say!)

  • I think the BBC have got their thumbnails in a twist!

  • The press are trying their best to wring as much as they can out of the Ferrari/Hamilton nonsense! He pretty much has to go.
