Forum recommended watch repairers/servicers in London?
Want to get my pocket watch looked at. (It's nothing too special – Hunter case rose gold waltham)

I was thinking more Dot Cotton <3
Longines can fuck off with their "Elegance is an attitude" bullshit. They ain't got shit on our Dot.

Alsal watches on the strand is by far the forum favourite for watch repairs. Small family run business with a good track record with LFGSS. Not open on weekends though which is a pain in the arse.

Any thoughts on here re likelihood of selling my unworn 'About Vintage' 1971 on here in classifieds? Or any pointers re a similar forum that would be better?
Got it during their kickstarter and have never worn it - it's this one here https://eu.aboutvintage.com/collections/all/products/1971-automatic-rose-gold-white-limited-edition
Pics of it here...

I've heard that they are really nice watches. Quite thin also.
Put a price up and perhaps somebody here will buy it.

I've used Allen and Wainwright in Lee a couple of times - family run, very old school but prices were reasonable and the work was great

Yep, it's beautiful and a very simple Skandi look to it, just the width was too much for my skinny wrists which make a 36mm vintage watch look like a divers !
RRP in sterling is around £850 and the cheapest I can find online still is £718 here https://www.skandiastyle.com/uk/1971-automatic-watch-rose-gold-white.html
Does £600 sound reasonable given it is fully boxed as new?

What were they at Kickstarter price? About £500?
-
• #34785
Just looked it up. They were £372 at current exchange rate for the Kickstarter and as you say, about £720 online.
For me, given that they've been on sale for over a year and only made 1,971 of them and have not sold out, I'd say that they are probably worth closer to the Kickstarter price than the RRP. If they sold out quickly that would indicate a demand for the asking price.

Yep, its was 3499DKK back in 2017 which was around £420 at Aug-17 FX rate.
See what you mean re demand. If I look at that "Skandiastyle" site, it has sold out of the £718 priced rose-gold equivalent, which is why I had used that as a marker.
Is £500 still attractive, given that price wouldn't be possible to get it at any longer?

Its not an outrageous amount at all. You can spend much more than that on a watch with an ETA 2824 inside.
It all boils down to what somebody is willing to pay. I'd consider paying £500 for the black dialled one so I don't think you are a million miles off.

Cheers for the advice, helps alot...as this has been sat unused for way too long now, so would rather have someone else making better use of it!
My 40th last year also meant a perfect gift from the wife of something more sensible sized for my childlike wrists!!

Nice though the 1971 is, you've definitely made a good decision there. That's a beauty.

My two pence you probably won’t get the best price on here but someone would wear it and probably be a decent sort and kicking back a few quid to the forum is preferable over eBay/chrono24 etc
-
• #34791
Cheers, and to be honest that's why i asked, would rather it sold to someone on here than eBay, even if for lower than I'd get there

Somebody buy it. It's a nice watch. One of the Kickstarter brands who have done good things IMO.

Not usually one for giving props to Hodinkee but their latest podcast interview with one of their own editors Joe Thompson has some great industry anecdotes. Best episode in ages.

Tudor for me. This watch is literally the only thing in this god awful bland hotel room that isn't sucking the life out of me.

Funny you should mention that, I'm in Dortmund. There's Europe's largest sex doll brothel just down the road.

Updated starp for my Hamilton today - prefer this over the last one by quite a lot.
The background is my coursework - machine learning clustering of 10-12 year old single malts by flavour profile. #scienceforgood
