Looks like a nice frame to me (not feeling the cheap looking SE decal though). Nice geometry and good looking track ends. Have you considered only partially stripping the paint?
Ie. leaving the lugs and seat stays green. I'm a bit of a fan of green as you can see from my bike.

I like your bike, but I'm leaning toward black, and chrome with honey leather.

You mustn't get caught up on the company name. If you ride any of the newer fixies put out IE; steam roller, bare knuckle they probably make it. Besides in you mind what is the difference between this an any other lugged steel frame?

I think you should worry less about copper plating and the appearance of your bike and more about getting a quality frame.

SE does not build this frame. They don't build frames at all. The company that builds this frame builds almost everyones frames.
The quality lies in the tubing used and the connections weather fillet brazed lugged or welded. I have had conversations with the builder, and I am satisfied with their build.
Everyone gets caught up in who markets the product when most of the companies out there outsource their frames from the east. If the developed countries all built their own frames the cost of labor would preclude most people from owning a bike.Just because it says Fuji Obey doesn't mean it was made by a Japanese craftsman. They are made in the same Maxway factory in Taiwan. As is Giant, Fuji, Jamis, DMR, Ritchey, Surly, Decathlon, Iro, Villager, QBP, Planet X, Dawes, Greenspeed, Rans, Da Bomb, Kogswell, VooDoo, Rivendell, Sachs, Lemond, Leader and so on. How I know this is that I was looking at buying large lots of frames from reputable companies, they all led to the same factory. They had a couple of quality problems with the Kogswell in their early day but have long since cleaned them up. Maxway made Rivendell's 1000.00 frame set and complete bike at 2000.00. Not their custom bikes. The much loved Charge bikes are made in Indonesia along with Cannondale, Cervelo, Bianchi, Scott, Specialized, Felt, and Pinerello.
Move the hell on.

As for geometry. A true track geometry is not suited for street use. The lack of camber on the fork will eventually lead to undo stress on the joints of the frame, and of your wrists and arms. Moving closer to the rake and camber of a traditional road frame makes it more suitable for where most of us ride. "The road"

obviously maxway produces alot of frames, but that does not mean everything they produce is equal.
the frame is still just 4130. and you asked "what is the difference between this an any other lugged steel frame?" -- there is a huge difference between these frames and higher quality frames. dont believe me? when you get your frame check the alignment and the welds.
you also asked our opinion on your project: my opinion is you're putting lipstick on a pig and probably spending alot to do so -- when you could take the same amount of money and pick up a quality lugged frame. if you want others' opinions, dont get all defensive when someone says something contrarian.

Not defensive, informed. I do a lot of research on the product. They will use any of five different tubes to produce a frame. Just because it's in Taiwan doesn't mean they're cavemen. I mentioned all the other bikes that are on the market simply to show that most production bikes are made in the east. some are very expensive and sought after.
Hell the Charge Plug is straight tubing and everyone raves about it. Most of the bikes built will be ridden on the streets not the tour de France.
If that is your only opinion your late. I showed the frame in the beginning of the thread. Everything after that is open to discussion. It's not an optimum frame for sure. But it's not shit either. And if you take into consideration the build to cost factors it's a damn good bike frame.
And I do know the differences between tubing and lugging and so forth.
4130 tubing is not the best tubing but it's not crap either. Are you a professional curmudgeon, or is it a hobby? Kidding.
Any other opinions or is that all you would like to add?
I will check the alignment, and brazing. I have to strip off the circus paint any way. I will be adding a rear brake tunnel. So I will check everything then.

sure.
you seem to not handle differing opinions or criticism very well.

sure. I think you should check your blood pressure.
LOL! I will, and I'll be sure to keep you abreast.

Really I'm fine. It's so nice to know you care though. I love you man...

I hate to admit it, but I kinda like the Maxway with the polished HT-lug on their site...
I agree that it's not an optimal frame, and comparing it to a bevy of other widely available "track" frames doesn't necessarily help your case.
On the otherhand, if you're getting it for as little as you mentioned (presumably in USD) it sounds reasonable enough... although I don't know if I'd go putting a huge amount of money into components.
Anyway, I hope it turns out well. Presumably you'll be able to transfer the components to something else should you trade up.
PS: one request... can we just call the region in question Asia (East Asia if you want to get specific)... unless you're talking about Downeast Maine, in which case feel free to call it the Far East.

NB: please excuse my inability to make an appropriate "Far East" geographical joke that would make sense to Britons... Cornwall or something?

bareknuckle is made in italy.

I stand corrected. Is all their production done there?

probably. google it.

TM, I wasn't really going for a proper "track" bike. This is going to be ridden on the road. I don't think I need a track bike. I don't see myself going to the velodrome. Although I am thinking of doing one in titanium.

i wouldn't really mind if it wasn't made in italy and was made in the far east. i don't think a product will be better because it's made in the EU, plenty of high quality stuff is made in chinese and taiwanese factories.
just dont want you to spread false information, that's all.
