  • I come from Greece and I studied sculpture at St Martin's college. I think it would be fair to say I had a thirst for knowledge. Then I met this boy.... geeky kid, tall and thin with some kind of regional accent. Spectacles.
I took quite a shine to him, as one does at that age. I confided in him that I had long had an urge to do whatever it is that 'common' people do. I admit that I was a little surprised when, in response, he took me to a supermarket. But, I thought, we have to start somewhere. I told him, fondly, that he was funny but he replied, with an asperity that was never far from the surface in his observations, that he failed to see anyone else sharing the joke, or words to that effect.
I've never been what one might term 'shy' so, by the frozen foods section, I confided in him that I wished to sleep with common people. Or, at least, with one common person; a 'common' menage would, perhaps, have been a little too common.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, he later made some rather baffling remarks about 'singing along' with these common people and also implied quite strongly that some of the things I did were 'stupid'. I believe his lack of ready cash had somewhat embittered him and it was at that point that I began to question my dearly held belief that poor is cool. It was, all in all, a rather disheartening experience but, I like to think, one which made me a better person.

  • Ithengyou...

  • is that a summary of common people by pulp.

  • which is your bike?

Either a white conversion with white velocities and now fluro pink drops or, if its a nice dry day my lo-pro. Which looks like...

    :)

  • is that a summary of common people by pulp.

    Is it?
    Say it ain't so.
    Why, the dirty rotten plagiarist.
    I oughtta...

  • Central Saint Martins Fine Art representin'....

I'm in the 3D pathway, which means that technically, I study sculpture at saint martins' college. I don't have a thirst for knowledge though, just old jamaica ginger beer to wash the carrot cake down with.

Sadly I'm the only member of this course who is pragmatic enough to do anything more than think about riding a bike. chuckles to himself

Nah seriously, there are a few of us here, but we're a solitary bunch who don't like to associate with other dirty cyclists.

I live in Cambersmell though, and have a few friends at cambersmell college of fart. Look out for this:

Harry, I'll gladly put up some flyers and spread the word.

  • think i've seen something similar to that ^ in camberwell

  • say hi next time, the name's alex!

  • alex, did you arrospok your aerospoke..

  • Nah, I aeroprobed it :) The letters came off the inside of that gallery I work at that you delivered to on your mercian. It used to say the name of the artist.

  • alex what course are your mates on, might know them?

  • wicked, does it make a helicopter sound when there's no traffic and no wind. my trispoke does that.

  • I haven't seen you round da manor before...or anyone else from se5 by that matter

  • I know a guy called Ian on the 3D design course - he rides a weird cream raleigh with turquoise wheels (and runs the UAL ski trip), and I know a few of the girls in 2nd year painting/fine art/whatever it's called... can't think of their names off the top of my head (which is bad). D'you know laura mate?

Also I know some lads from 1st year sculpture, via my flatmate who is also on that course. Louie (or Louis or something) and Sam. My flatmate is Grace. She makes great chocolate cake.

  • I sold a bike to someone from first year sculpture, cant remember his name.
Hmm I mostly know people from 3rd year Illustration and painting, dont think i know a Laura, ill ask my housemate, shes on painting

  • wicked, does it make a helicopter sound when there's no traffic and no wind. my trispoke does that.

My 650c trispoke does that, yeah! The aerospoke just emits a guttural and demonic growl. Even when it's stationary.

the difference between trispoke and 5-spoke/carbon fibre and carbon-lead composite is quite interesting, too. The trispoke used to catch the wind like a sail, but the weight of the aerospoke overcomes it most of the time.

  • Aw man this thread is getting me excited!

Also big lols at the bitter old man tags for this thread...

  • daveypants, you mentioned in the N64 thread that you know aidan - which aidan do you know? Fallon or Earl? Mass of ginger hair and loud or reserved, quiet and clean-shaven, like a soldier? :)

  • Fallon, known him for years. I live in Enfield, we go for rides when he's back at home. Were you at the Threads of Sincerity show at the crypt in Euston a few weeks ago? Riding an '05 langster and 'spok? (edit: that bike a few posts upwards - I guess it was you then)

  • yeah that was me... Aidan hasn't mentioned you! Or at least if he has I haven't put 2 and 2 together! What do you ride buddy? And which college you at? If you're at a college at all? :)

  • I ride a fairly boring Plug (just put on some new drops about an hour ago, they're lovely) and I'm at Chelsea. Still living at home in Enfield though so the bike doesn't see much action up in town. I was supposed to come down to the bike jumble at Herne Hill with Aidan on new years - probably would have met you then but it was such a mission for early new years day to come down from Enfield that I decided against it at the last minute. There's a bunch of people in this thread who I know indirectly that I want to meet properly, really hope this ride comes together - looking forward to getting out on the road with some fellow fixiegearwheelbikers.

  • get on it with harry! I'll pop down to chelsea with the fallon in tow at some point next week. which days are you in?

  • Sweet - assessments next week so not sure yet but normally every day except Tuesday.

  • Yeah, get on it with me!
    Whatever that means.
I'm hard to miss really. I have yellow hair and wear alot of pink. Usualy insulting or complaining about summit.

Alex, if you are comming by drop us a txty. Be nice to see ya again.
Speaking of which, how are the urban pursuit bars. I'm considering a pair for the dave yates....

  • P.S. I defo wouldn't call where you live Camberwell. Its Brixton, and worryingly close to Loughbourgh Junction.
