Yes, there are some fantastic views around the Shanklin/Ventnor area. The climb out of Shanklin is a bitch, mainly due to the terrible road surface. I think someone layed the tarmac, while his mate followed tossing a load of gravel here and there.

was thinking essex again as it will be the tuesday after the ride of the falling leaves....or the chilterns for one final fuck around with their trains? thoughts?
It was suggested on the train back on Tuesday that we do the Chilterns route. The caveat is that we'd probably need Mr Shootthebreeze to be confirmed so we can all benefit from his knowledge of those roads.
I hope to make it, regardless of the route. It'll be my last TNRC ride of the year as I cannot make the Surrey Hills ride (assuming it'll be on the 20th).

scarlett, it is wicked how much of you can be seen in tynan, and how much of that is the wicked side. love the sound of your walk along the coast to ventnor. rate that side of the island, and then on further round the west it gets ever more interesting.
clintsmoker, andyp, spoke with shoots earlier and the chilterns is a no go. reckon in light of the falling leaves that roydon or essex should rule. though i think there might be another plan.
tim, will ring you about this. or even better, get down to the rollers at the BGWMC tomorrow.

Sounds like a good one gents. I <3 the Exedown climb.
Looking forward to the next one *cough*roydoncough.

There's always the Welwyn Herts, (Minds), & Beds ride, if you're looking for something less challenging.
Heck, I might even be coaxed out for a recovery ride if you needed navigational assistance (and I can book the night off work)...

• #3237
bmmf, thanks for putting that in the mix. that could work, though reckon we would need you at the helm.

Look where I was at lunchtime today - ring any bells?

I'm going to guess Ide Hill. It looks like Emmett's Garden to me.

such a nice day for it!

Wow - sorry a little delay on my response - moving house is sush a psychic burden that I couldn't even turn a computer on, really good ride last tuesday - really blew the cobwebs out; purple_mj = You're cadence on decents are ridiculously quick, and you kept me on my toes throughout, great fun. Looking forward to the next one already. Good to meet the new peeps, and thanks to Sam for strimming and tarmac laying.

Nope. It's just off Leith Hill, on the way to Coldharbour, just round the corner from 'our pub'.
I'll ask to book Tuesday 6th off work to lead the gentle Welwyn ride if that works for everyone. A flat and quiet 40-miler would suit me too, as I'll be racing on Sunday the 4th, as well as the weekend after.
And we've only done that route once - would be interested to see how it feels in darkness from the off.
Whatmehver.

No one's seen that in the daylight, Scarlett. So that's what it looks like.

• #3244

I'll post tomorrow once the annual leave's been okayed or otherwise...
EDIT: Hang on, I meant Monday. Racing tomorrow, well and truly out of my depth :/

Looking good. I'll do the inaugural post soon...

Rats - I recognised that straight away!
Did you come up from the A29 to coldharbour? I like that climb best around there, even though the road surface is a bit shit.
I'm in for the next TNRC, lurgy is departed and I even managed a few RP laps tonight.
-
• #3249
Yup...
Recognised it straight off too.
Almost as nice as the views off the south west side of the IOW on Saturday.
70 miles in glorious weather around a fantastic cycling isle.
I'd totally forgotten about the Well In There ride.
Good call BMMF.
Hope the race went well. -

@Jung - I went down to the A29 earlier - the road with Broome Hall near the bottom. But I'd just been up from the B2126 a few times to get the lie of the land.
@stb - Er, the race went [some sort of wobbly hand gesture]. On the plus side, it's amazing what a proper race does for your fitness/strength. I went up Muswell Hill tonight (after a brief chinwag with PinkGottiMobbs) at about 90% effort in 1m45, but felt completely recovered within ~45 seconds. I'm going to miss feeling this fit in a couple of months, when I'm 5kg heavier, booze-addled, and being mollycoddled by my granny ring.
