@Cycliste uses S bend bars on her Zipp Vukas, and I use S bends on my Brezza IIs. It's obviously a very personal thing, and depends on how you want your hands to be when you're on the extensions. I like having my hands on the sides of the bars with my thumbs on top, so S bends work for me. If you want to have your hands more vertical, with the fingers at the front, then ski bends will work better. Extensions are relatively cheap (particularly for ali ones) so suck it and see.

Nice one!

I'll try out the "race" bends and if they're uncomfortable I can try the ski after

You want ride of those ski bends? I wanna put the Shiv bars onto the PX but I'm still using the Shiv extensions on the Shiv.

I used to have ski-bends, and then switched to "race-bends" when I bought my Zipp Vuka alumina set up because I thought they looked cooler... I'll be changing back to skis again as soon as I get around to it. More comfortable on my wrists and (for me, possibly) more aero.

Already got rid, sorry.

Why two bottles for a 50? Were you touring it or something :)
I split my drink between two bottles in the hope that the lighter load per cage would reduce the possibility of ejection. In the sense that they stayed in for twice as long as last time, I suppose that was a qualified success :-)
Yes, my 50 pace is what you'd call touring

• #10135
What cages are you using? Aero ones?
I saw one of the riders lose a bottle during the TTT in Le Tour if that makes you feel better.
-
• #10136
What cages are you using?
Elite Custom Race.

-
• #10137
Hmm.. odd. I use them and they're really good. Of course mine have the Aussie flag on them so they're probably better but still, I'd have thought you'd be ok with the Elite cages.

Where? The angle of dangle on the Fizik Tritone may be to blame.
-
• #10139
I've used them on down tube, seat tube, vertical saddle mount and BTA. Not dropped a bottle from one.
-
• #10140
I was having problems with bottles ejecting behind the saddle, but since using "x-lab Gorilla XT" cages I haven't had a single loss. Been using them on most rides for the last 3 months or so.
-
• #10141
Yep, the X-Lab Gorilla cages are stupid tight. I almost dislocated my shoulder trying to remove bottles during the Hounslow 100.
-
• #10142
+1 for Elites being fine. You have them set pretty vertically right? Maybe a more diagonal angle would be more secure.
-
• #10143
Ha! I've got both "Gorilla" cages and "Gorilla XT".
The plain old gorillas were an improvement on whatever generic cage I was using before (I think specialized ones that looked similar to the elite cage above) but I still lost bottles with them, but the XT version are even tighter. There was a moment this weekend when I struggled to get the bottle out even when the bike was in the garage. That said, I've never had trouble retrieving a bottle on the go, and I've not lost a bottle since using them. Cages set up vertically behind saddle.

I just looked - my one is a Gorilla XT - very tight. My saddle mount is on an angle so particularly difficult for getting bottles from. Using BTA now which is easier.

Didn't you guys get the memo?
Camelfronts are the new thing.
If not got one, just use your colostomy tube.
-
• #10146
You have them set pretty vertically right?
No, they lean back on the Tritone rack, I think that might be part of the problem, they're hanging from the cage rather than falling into it

-
• #10147
This did 200 miles without falling out, even on the Chawton stretch of Bentley.

This did 200 miles
When did you do the other 100?
-
• #10149
Hounslow and national 100, same setup.

Hounslow and national 100
Thought you meant 200 miles on the A31.
Presumably next year you'll be aiming for at least 450 miles on the A31, Charlotteville 50 for a warm up followed by Hounslow 100 and Newbury 12 :-)
