Status Quo bassist Alan Lancaster, aged 72
Roger Hunt, another of Alf’s boys.
Heiko Salzwedal, German cycling coach who was an integral part of both the Australian and British success in the velodrome.
He was only 64--all I can find so far, no cause of death given:
Greg Gilbert of Delays. Fucking cancer again.
Am listening to Faded Seaside Glamour here tonight. That voice….
Olivier Libaux of the rather splendid Nouvelle Vague.
Another jazz great departed last Tuesday, RIP Dr Lonnie Smith
Also funk legend last week, RIP Pee Wee Ellis
I don’t know whether he performed or was involved in this track, James Brown bounced around a lot of different bands in his time, but Pee Wee Ellis definitely co-created some of the best sounds of the funk era. One of my faves here;
one, two, three, foe
Bernard Tapie, big influence in cycling and dodgy dealing!
Chris Dench of Goodsoul Promotions. Along with his brother Mike, and until 3 years ago their mother Norma, they put on dozens of gigs mostly but not exclusively in the London area, mostly indie and psych rock stuff, in venues like the Water Rats, Sebright Arms and the Victoria. Chris and Mike were at just about every gig I’ve been to over the last 10 years or so, and were as passionate about music as anyone I’ve ever met.
Chris was diagnosed with terminal cancer just over two weeks ago, and passed away at home on Sunday. He’ll be missed hugely in London and beyond, not least by me and many of my friends. RIP fella, you did good.
A touching goodbye, good one.
Pat Fish, aka The Jazz Butcher.
This zooms me back to 1984. RIP.
James Brokenshire, MP for Bexley and Sidcup, aged 53, from cancer.
RIP - I loved fingerbobs as a child.
Aww, I loved Fingerbobs. I always found him sort of nice but also a bit creepy
Agnes Tirop, world 10-km record holder, took the record just a month ago, only 25 years old:
Shocking story. Her husband is missing and being treated as a suspect but I suppose he could have been kidnapped?

Trevor Hemmings - PNE Owner. And something to do with horses.
Co-lin Powell, former US Secretary of State, and pro Iraq war promoter.
Michael Wadada ov thee Suns of Arqa. Amazing dude, died happy on Sunday at dusk. Made amazing musik with lots of amazing people, including Prince Far I and Stanley Unwin. The Yantra attatched here was on the cover of the LP India?, they released loads of great LPs throughout the 80s and up to the present. Check out their works if you’ve never heard of them.
Shame. I remember Govinda's House on the 1989 Freakbeats compilation
