Lacing to a 40 hole hub

How can i do it on a 32 or 36 hole rim ?
Anyone ever tried it or has any ideas how to ?

I've got a nice 40 hole hub and am determined not to pay arm and leg for a vintage 40 hole rim, would rather just get the usual one and do a sneaky maneuver around it.

I know my LBS has a good mavic 40hole rim hanging on the ceiling. Could go and check it out if you need.

hmmm...ive done that, ive laced a 36 rim onto a 40 hole.

Lace as normal but on each flange you leave out a hole and then another after 180 degrees, if its a 32 hole rim leave an empty hole every 90 degrees
This way each flange has two (or four for 32h rim) empty holes which are opposite each other.
Does that make sense?

I think lacing a 32 would be a better choice as the spoke tension will be more equal.

medium, try looking at sample sales i find that some brands cut are a bit short in the torso, but I'm tall and thin, but broad shouldered so you may not have this problem

You obviously haven't ever been to dales 'flat'. Calling it Spartan does an injustice to how luxurious Sparta actually was.
