What do you use to store your stuff in?

  • I was joking. I was sweaty during my commutes, even when I left the house and it was -3C.

I only ever use a messenger bag by the way.

Its just my belief, that maneurvering the weight you carry (which will include a back-pack of any type), is more important to the handling of a bike than any other package-carrying solution.

When you need to suddenly bunny-hop a dead fox in a night ride, or a pothole, or whatever, a pannier will need extra training and experience to do.

For the reasons that Scott gave in the Messenger Bag thread, I prefer a messenger bag to a rucksack.

  • Surely you get back sweat even in this weather from Catford?

    I did today.

If you wanted to arrive at a destination as fresh as a daisy you'd get a cab. If you're worried about being sweaty then maybe cycling isn't for you?

You're exercising, therefore you will perspire. it's unavoidable.

I know you're just asking questions but this is getting tiresome... you can't expect us to solve all of the problems you encounter when you start something new. Just go out and find out for yourself, like everybody else has.

  • I put my junk in a box.

  • the OP is trying my patience

    +1

  • Do not touch pravs sack.

    It smells and is dirty.
    Dibs on that sack!

    I'll wash it in bleach.

  • Fresh from the laundry, this bag was previously owned by an OG fakenger - even before the term existed.
(He has since moved onto gears, brakes, marriage, and puppies.)

  • Look, calm down you miserable old gits.

This thread isn't supposed to just be about 'me'. I was interested, generally, in what people use.

And already some very interesting things have been said, which I am going to update in that little guide.

Take it as a compliment that I want to hear what you have to say. :)

  • What JDB said.

Some random backpack for everyday use - I carry clothes in and the usual bits and bobs but no laptop. I'm saving for one of Scott's sometime to get a bit more flexibility.

Small Camelback for essentials offroad and snowboarding.

You sweat, but cycling is an activity so that's not really unexpected? I shower at work, but a wet-wipe spit wash is also an option.

  • Go on teh classifieds section and post - wanted - courier bag, i'm sure you could pick up a used timbuk2 or something for cheap

  • I go to a nice lady in Soho for my shower.

  • hmm... if you can come to wests I can lend you a large timbuk2 for a week.

Imagine how long it will take him to decide what he wants to drink!

  • Capacity mainly. And I worry about far too fucking much really.

    Fixerated.

  • I'm just excited. I have greatly enjoyed riding.

  • i keep mine in the cupboard

  • Look, calm down you miserable old gits.

there is allready about a million threads about bags......please stop clogging up the forum with your annoying questions.
seriously... the first couple of questions...fair anough, you're obviously new to cycling...but this is just getting rediculous an tedious.
i hope you don't plan on coming to any of the drinks or rides, as all these stupid threads are a sure fire way to piss everyone off.
    including me.
sorry for being harsh.... but why not try thinking with your own brain.

Out of order. The questions may annoying but it's just enthusiasm. You don't have to answer them. Ignore him if he upsets you that much. No reason to to try and scare people off getting involved with events.

  • fair point, it was a harsh comment, and i love the social side of this forum, but if he carries on like this, i think people will start to disslike him before they've even met him.
take OOL as an example...(but obviously he's in a leauge of his own)

i'm just saying i hink he should try answering some of these questions without starting so many threads, and obviously annoying quite a few people.

    spagettihoops,

I know you're a popular person, from the comments I've heard from others about you. However, the comment you just made here has me restraining myself from being really nasty and extremely aggressive about it.

I agree that Paul-Michel's posts are no-brainers, but I find that extremely funny. He might be helping someone out there, but he also openly acknowledges that many don't agree wuth him, or his approach.

As for clogging up the forum......if he's a registered member, then as far as I knew, then he could post whatever he liked. Its up to others to reply, or ignore. I'm on the ignore list of quite a few people, because they feel about my posts/threads, in the same way that you appear to feel about Paul-Michel's posts.

Last time I checked, fg/ss cycling, was still a minority pursuit. That other people try to make access to that, easier, then why get so upset about it?

As for, i hope you don't plan on coming to any of the drinks or rides, as all these stupid threads are a sure fire way to piss everyone off., that is too much. Do you think everybody on this forum is like you? I socialise with people on this forum, and those that don't like me because of my threads.....or that wish me to fuck off and die.....that is their perogative.

That was harsh and threatening, to a newbie. As such, it was also bang out of order.

I don't often bite back, and I hope to God that I never do. I try hard to ignore the aggression against me, as I am peaceful, though, if I ever go back to what I was before, I will be unrecognisable.

Aggression of this type, does deserve a reply though.

I take your point. But, IF this thread was a total waste of time, then why have people decided to post in it what they use and their experiences generally? Whatever you think, clearly others do not agree.

And anyway, if people like you had your way, a discussion forum would be nothing other than a search function; a depository of information with no life.

No doubt the only sanctioned activity would be lame attempts at internet humor and idle, pointless chit-chat.

As for events, well, I might do Dunwich if I am fit enough. And I will wear a helmet in case you try and attack me for being a boring twat. :)

  • i wear a helmet.

  • i am a helmet.

    :)

  • p-m, i think the essence of what people are saying is that there is much to learn from the wealth of experience on this forum, but for some things you just have to get on your bike and ride and figure it out yourself. cycling's meant to be fun; it's not something that should keep you up at night worrying if you're properly kitted out or not. get out and ride more!

  • my hair is like a helmet

    :P

  • i've changed my name to helmut.

    !

  • steady on there big G - your use of bold there seems to be attributing things to SpagHoops that I don't recall him saying.

I understand the frustration with Paul M's posts 'panniers rock, no they're shit, messenger bags don't work, oh there's loads of messengers use them every day, why am i sweating, I want advice but I'll disagree with most of the responses' but I'll put it down to his coltish enthusiasm for now and would defend his right to do that, but isn't spags also at liberty to voice his frustration
