  • just wondering what rims are better, mavic open pro's or dt swiss? they seem to be on the same wavelength in price range and on the market just ones slightly more expensive (Dt Swiss), but that doesnt necessarily mean better no?

also i dont really want anything like deep v's as i want a traditional looking wheel, are there many other alternatives?

  • depends what you need it for.
dt 1.2's are semi aero as are the open pro's but, open pros have single eyelets, dt's dont. In terms of weight they are similar but I think 1.2's have a deeper profile-look more like velocity's but are better.
dt 1.1's are lighter and have double/triple eyelets but look quite flat and not 'aero' but lets be serious....

both are good rims, I went for 1.1's and I'm very happy with them

  • Difficult choice, as DT's are more famous for spokes. Think I'd choose by price, I like my Arayas though.

  • are arayas contemporary/traditional looking then?

  • Weights . . . .

The DT 1.1 on the left is going spare if you want to make me an offer I can't refuse (cash or sweets or dirty sex drawings)

  • well i do really want silver ones, do you have any silver ones fella?

  • well i do really want silver ones, do you have any silver ones fella?

Let me take a stroll through my rim library, back in a second . . .

  • also i want them to be double eyelet and 32 holes if that possible?

  • No, nothing 700c in silver.

    Try Chainreaction or Wiggle.

  • I was faced with the same choice a couple of years back and went for the Open Pros. A friend, who owns a bike shop, was riding DT Swiss rims and he wasn't 100% happy with the braking surface of them, saying that the calipers caught the rim under braking.

That said, the best rims I've used are the Ambrosio Excellence rims. They are beautifully made and last for ages.

ahh thanks anyway dude, i will search tinternet

DT Swiss do white spokes now as well.

yeah man, was looking at them but isnt 28 holes on the back a bit risky?

lol can i have half a hole extra?

  • Tynan has some extra holes you can buy off him

Yeah, I have 14 or 15 good quality holes I took off an old DT rim, they are all in good condition although a couple are a little scratched (around the edge).

    Can i rent a hole for 10min?

  • yeah man, was looking at them but isnt 28 holes on the back a bit risky?

nah far from risky at all, I used to ride 28 on both wheel all over London for years.

  • Can i rent a hole for 10min?

I never rent my hole out.

excellent stuff, i 'm gonna get the white rims then, i've decided, thanks alot guys, now gotta sort out the hubs and rest of stuff for my new build, looked at the white spokes but think they are too outlandish for me......plus they're not in stock either ;)

white spoke will be a bastard to keep clean, go through a puddle and it'll look like Tynan shit on it.

  • yeah i was thinking that, not too interested in them anyways, was just alerting peeps that they are outta stock,

  • I heard that anodised spokes become brittle in the process and are more prone to snap.
Is this the work of Geoffrey Chaucer, or can anyone else back this up?

I would start a new thread but im not Paul-Michel...
