  • 250mm divided by 18mm = 13

    £5.58 divided by 13 = 43p

43p per cap not including postage

you're going to get wastage when you cut - better to calculate 20mm per and cost it at the 1000mm rod. that makes it 38p each. and some people will want both ends capped.

Add to that a 100mm length of 2" ABS @ 13.99 per metre and your looking at a total cost of £4.95 per head.

this is for 50mm. Take the same calculations up to the 2.5" and it's £8.52 for head + 2 caps.

  • add the that the beryllium shaft i'm going to make, it will be £12000

  • Exterminator 4.95

    Dominator 8.52

  • hope im helping guys.;)

  • The initial outlay to make 30 x 50mm heads is £60.96

for the 65mm heads, initial outlay for 30 units is £104.19

Cohen, if you're up for making the 50mm ones, we could put the £5 up front and i'll manage ordering the materials.*

(*all these calculations to be confirmed with suppliers - not my fault if they don't work out)

    List time (once cohen agrees)?

  • Or should we make a run of 10 first, at a slightly higher cost, and see how they last?

  • Cohen, it looks like that site will also cut the HDPE to measure at a small extra cost - this would save you the work, it would be one less stage of production on each one.

  • i've been talking to dave who has some 50mm rod he says i can use,
this could be used for initial run if matt has some 50mm abs...

then i can see how long machining one head takes and perfect the art before a bigger order
also, i'm inclined to giving my school department a bit of money (only a bit!) as it is their lathe etc. so that should be included in the cost i think

yep sounds good, but i'm not sure if the lathe will need a bit extra rod to 'grab onto' if you see what i mean

but otherwise that sounds like it could really help in getting a perfectly flat head.

  • I suspect Matt is out of ABS - i'll ask him, and if not I'll call the place and order a test piece.

Let's do some prototype heads and if they're going to work i'm sure we can add a percentage to the materials cost to go towards the use of the workshop.

How much rod does Dave have? (!!!!)

  • 2 x 250mm
i think he bought them so we should give him something

he also has some 50mm clear plastic tube with 3mm wall which we thought about using for prototypes,
but abs would definitely be better for testing wearability.

  • Clear plastic? Sounds nice. What material is it?

  • i dont' know but i pretty sure that the dye used to make transparent plastic also weakens the plastic,
this might just be for acrylic though

  • Update: I'm ordering some ABS, cohen will work on some caps, we'll put together a couple of prototypes and get back to this thread with the results asap.

yes, yes. the naming/branding is the important shit

  • so what's the score?

ott's buying some ABS to use with caps made from my plastic rod by Cohen = a few prototypes to test and tweak?

    sounds good

  • I've ordered a metre of 50mm ABS, delivery tomorrow. Cohen, i'll get this marked up for you - are you around at the weekend?

  • Call it Doris.

  • Call me Doris.

    fuxed.

great! did you find out what the grading system is all about?

I'm supposed to be meeting him at polo on saturday to give him the plastic rod so he'll be around

  • The grading system is for water pressure - apparently it doesn't make a difference to the wear and tear of the plastic, or how well it withstands impact (which they took in their stride when questioned about!) so i ordered class C, as it's cheapest.

And some clear PVC/Acrylic, just for kicks.

    hell yeah!
nice turnaround on the abs otters, how many heads worth are you going to mark up?
i think i can have all the caps made in a week so saturday 7th i can bring them down to polo

  • shotgun a prototype!
