  • Yeah but your forgetting London is full of cunt drivers, would you like to sail through Elephant and Castle roundabout on one?

yet still be able to see higher up is still useful in the like of elephant and castle.

those bike are town bike, if you're not in a rush to get from and to work, then there shouldn't be any sweat breaking involved.

I mean I borrowed a mate's pashley from Islington to Wimbledon, I went slowly admittedly but very comfortably and hasn't broke a sweat, it's when you want to get there ASAP is where those town bike failed at.

  • in that case, the bike I build for my girlfriend (mixture of town bike/road bike) isn't suitable for London if I follow your logic JDB.

if she can get from A to B fine and comfortably in London, then what's the worry?

have you ever cycled in paris?! more romantic bien sur, but just as mental drivers

I am not sure I can help you other than to say whatever the answer I can say with complete and utter confidence that a bike for a ladies who wants to do a 20 mile round trip will be absolutely nothing like a bike for a man who wants to do a 20 mile round trip.

It will have frills for a start.

    And maybe in pink.

with a small kitten in a basket.

I for one am glad this question was asked.

you forgot the ribbons, AND the puppy. it looks like a smelly boy's bike the way you describe it.

No Ed, your girls bike is fine for London, but I'm sure you would agree it would not be ideal for 20 miles of commuting every day. 10 miles each way is a decent haul and if you want to do it every day then a decent light weight bike that is comfortable to ride, reasonably fast and efficient will be more appealing.

Sorry, how could I forget the ribbons and puppy.

  • Cannondale bad boy 8?

    ribbons & flowers ..?

yes, thought you don't necessary need it to be lightweight, just comfortable and easy to ride about for 10 miles, I seen a handful of women on those old big Pashley style bike up and down the stretch of the northern line route between Balham and Waterloo.

you're thinking like a man mate!

  • Guess what the time difference on a ten mile commute between this

    and this

    is?

  • is it a trick question?

  • If I guess right can I have the Mercian?

  • I tell you I was surprised when I kept doing it quicker on the Dahon ! the point is that you may as well go for the bike with mudgaurds, chain guard, lights, pump rack etc because although you won't win any races the time you lose over ten miles will amount to sitting at one or two red lights.

Faster on the folding because you take the train half way there?

I've yet to be overtaken by a rider on a folding bike so I'm going to say the track is faster, although being brakeless I'm sure there are sections you wouldn't hammer as hard on the track bike.

  • The folder was faster over short distances because it has a spinny gear whereas the mercian had a rouleur gear for country roads the point is I would have thought the mercian would have beaten the dahon hands down and it would have done in a race but not necessarily in a commute

the majority of the folder tend to be standard Brompton, which have a spongy suspension , not exactly great for overtaking.

the Dahon on the other hand is a perfect mix of folding and actual sized bike.

  • All the 'shopper' type bikes are completely fucking useless. As if commuting 20 miles a day on a Pashley would be a good idea.

  • How about a flatbar Kaffenback?
Good spec for £689. A great hybrid style bike which can be switched to a tourer, a road bike, or a singlespeed/fixed. Even comes with an adjustable stem, so she can ride as upright as she likes.
