Could make a good polo steed, and a good price:

And you can run 700 wheels on that too^

Well for one thing goals are a bike-length wide, measured with 700c wheels. So you're 26" wheels are going to leave a few gaps.

dale got one of these from stringerman...but then sold it to pip (GS) who later got this stolen....its fucking heaaaaavy!!

I know i don't play polo, but out of curiosity, why is 700c the prefered choice? 26" wheels accelerate quicker and have shorter spokes, so make a stronger wheel. It would also allow for a shorter wheelbase.
What is to be gained by running 700c wheels on a small polo court?
Im sure there's a reason i must be missing?I'm thinking about it, 700c is what i think most people ride on other bike so bits etc. easy traded. Braindick has 26" so does harry to name a few.
I rarly ride my polo bike to work anymore so only has to go a short distance to the court. 26s might make more sense.
And agreed with toms point of goal size.

Welcome to the world of endless polo bike tweaking, Scott.

I don't play polo (would have loved to but no time!) but I'd have been looking at a 26" SS MTB for the same reasons Scott says. Chunky fat tyres (probably Hookworms) and probably a rim brake so there were no worries about getting a rotor bent. Maybe even an old skool hydraulic rim brake. :^)

was hoping to see the eddy last night... but was told its out in the country.

Funny you should ask Scott. I was talking to eggpie about it last night.
I'm going to put some slicks on the DMR and give that a go at polo to see if the benefits (acceleration, strenght etc) outweigh the negatives (Increased 5 hole, lack of swopability between other players etc).

Goal tending is do-able with the smaller wheels, you just have to be a lot more actively engaged (which is a good thing). The trade-off is that, though you have more gaps, you're more stable with the lower centre of gravity, hence you can hold yourself up in goal against more aggressive assaults and therefore stay in play to keep the ball out.

I forgot about those. Damn you Scott!

Well for one thing goals are a bike-length wide, measured with 700c wheels. So you're 26" wheels are going to leave a few gaps.
But that's entirely dependent on which bike you use.
If goals are set for short W/B 700, then anyone turning up on a longer W/B 26, with low BB, might leave less gaps.
Why not get a tape measure and standardise the goal width, then players can make an informed decision? -

No polo, no polotics.

Recent tweaks:
I stretched some old YETI grips over my worn out cheapo plastic lock-on grips. They feel great 'coz I have big hands and were free so I'm happy.

Got a new brake from aufbruch - cheers!

New stem from Marcola - 11.1% shorter, 1111% nicer

Can anyone recommend a tough/thick 104 pcd chainring + bashring combo?
-
• #818
Goldtec / BETD chainring (it's discounted), and don't bother with the bashring. good price atmo.
On-one have a new stainless steel chainring that looks solid, and should wear really well....else Wiggle do a decent FSA plastic bashring for £16. I would have thought a worn-out 40T chainring and an angle grinder would be more your style?

Cheers Prav I'll check those out, duh completely forgot about DIY (shame on me) I'll grind down the bent chainring and use it.
Just looked they only go up to 34t, I need 38t minimum otherwise I'll have to get a new sprocket/freewheel too.
Any other suggestions?

on something like my humu humu, will the weight be in the wheels (tyres) then? i guess i should whip the wheels off and weigh the fucker. and maybe get around to trying dale's chain-ring. hmmn.

Damn looks like I'm out of luck.
option a) get new chainring(40t)
This fails because I can't find any steel or super strong looking 1/8th chainrings, this 9 speed one is the best I've found
http://www.billys.co.uk/english/group.php?prod=crdmrscr4option b) get surly stainless chainring (34t) and then replace the sprocket for polo and the freewheel for getting to/from the court.
This fails because the smallest freewheel I can find is 16t so it will still take me ages to get everywhere.
Looks like I'm all out of luck today.
