Its fine to powder coat hubs.
Youll have to remove the axle and bearings, leaving just a hub shell. Depending on the hub they might be pretty tricky to pop-out.
After powder coating, you will have to carefully nitromors the inners so you can get your bearings back in.

Ooh. Kool.

no need to nitromors just get them masked properly or just buy halo hubs

In my experience powder coaters are inept at masking the simplest of things like BB threads. Itd be pretty damn tricky to mask a neat edge around the bearing surface of a hub.

You've never used Armourtex then!

+1, any where i have had thing powdercoated/sprayed, they usually do a damn good job of masking.

I am pretty sure a fellow forumger had a pair of hubs done by Armortex - this thread has a real sense of deja vu
-

don't wanna hijack the thread but can you powdercoat a clear coat onto an already
cellulose-painted frame for added protection or is it better to just lacquer it? -

Ooooh. I didn't realise profile did white hubs. Very tempting indeed. They are perty...
Then I could just get some spokes powder coated and my plans for world domination / and entirely white spoked wheel would be complete! You guys are the best :)

can already get white spokes ;)

1+ just got my frame back from Armourtex, man it's completely professional, not a single mark to be found, and the packaging of the frame also make it a lots easier transporting it back to wimbledon.

@dogs: True, but Halo ones are quite long right, or at least not dead short?
I was told sourcing white spokes to go from high flange to H+sons in a radial is pretty tricky. I need to double check what length I need and have a internet searchy, but since I have to go to Arourtex with an army of stuff anyway it won't add too much cost...That said if the Halos do come in short or you know of others then I'm all ears (nose and toes)
-
• #22
halo's are short, maybe shorter than 245mm needed for the H+ radial on hi-flange. dt swiss apparently have some white spokes as well.

Ooooh sweet.
My informant was a mongaloid then! How exciting, and if I can be cheeky, can I trouble you for a place to purchase these brill white spokes?

I'm after some white high flanges, and Phill Woods in white take the piss - an extra £120ish just for them to paint them...
So I was thinking of our friend Armoutex. What do I need to take off or out of a sealed hub in order to have it powdercoated? Is it just the axel? or do I need to do more?
And has anyone had a hub powdercoated/painted and if so how did it go?
