Someone on here might know something about this... Years ago (early 2000’s), I was on a coach and heard what legit sounded like an F1 car. Shockingly loud and high revving and unlike anything I’d heard. Turned out to be coming from one of those 90s 8 series BMWs. Thing is, I’ve only known them to be quiet. Did they make a mental one or something? It really stuck with me and I haven’t heard anything quite like it since.

Edit. They did a V12. May explain scream.

850csi maybe?

Yep, bit of YouTubin’ and it was probably a v12 with a modded exhaust.

And it's already LHD so no probs dans la France, etc... Get a Brave New World wrap on it and Robert est ton oncle...

I've always fancied a D'ambulance ... That ad is a bit light on spec though - obviously not a hydraulic gearbox, probably a 21 or a 23, probably not injection - but even apart from the mechanics, some more interior pictures would be good

Twin rear axel?

Ambulances are exempt. Might have to do a few blue light jobs on the weekend to keep it legit.

That is so sick.
Just lost 45 minutes to this after falling down the 850i rabbit hole.

Such a pity they never put the M8 into production. There's a car I really could hanker after.

Twin rear axel?
That was the Hollander newspaper wagons.
Years ago I came across an ad for one that had been converted (well, partially I think) into a campervan - I want to say I half-contemplated following it up, but realistically it was about a sixteenth ...

Paint it black and do some jobs for a funeral director.
(Yes, those black or grey panel vans with Private Ambulance in tiny letters are doing a run to or from the morgue ...)

680hp out of the theoretical factory.
That e31 8 series has such a wicked shape.

Near perfect I'd say. Still looks great today on the rare occasion you see one.
The M8 prototype - that must be the McLaren F1 engine right?

"That'll do, pig, that'll do."

Similar, yes, but not the same.

Absolutely the nicest shape bmw there’s been. Also popup headlights ftw. Why haven’t those made a comeback!?

Most likely crash/pedestrian safety standards. And then how do you do the stupid LED daylight running light garbage all cars now have.
But yeah, pop up and down headlights. Rad. Except for Porsche 928 frog eyes, that's just weird.

I've never got the drl dislike.
One of my pet hates is people not putting their lights on early enough or in low light conditions. Car lights are meant to function as a viability aid for others, not just to light the path in front of the driver.
Drl's solve this issue. They've been mandatory on motorbikes for ages now.

Assuming this isn't an actual question, because other than a retro aesthetic there aren't any good reasons for them.
As cool as they look they were already old tech by the time BMW put them on the 8 series.

I run my lights all the time, I drive a black car so statistically more likely to have an accident... That's my reasoning anyway...

For me, DRL's are a cheap styling trick that then gets sold as a feature. I like the safety aspect but like everything, it's getting extreme with flashed greetings etc. Just make the car look good to start with before covering it in makeup!

Based on your car history so far you're at 50/50 odds right?
Congestion charge applies to all I think, unless you convert to electric.
