When the turbo is hosed it’s normally just a down on power situation, not total destruction. It’ll be annoying until you fix it, I imagine.

Good job

I know very little about cars, as evidenced by my thread contributions - but is that a jaguar xj220?
We had a little pocket book of sports cars kicking around the house when I was younger and I always liked the look of it (along with, if I recall, inexplicably, a Lotus Elan).

In 996 news, I had a message from the garage- new dual stage scavenge pump is in, new VarioCam solenoid is in, performance on test drive “massively improved”, which sounds exciting. They also serviced and MOT’d it. £2,732.

I provided the dual stage scavenge pump, but they provided the hard pipe and fittings, plus drilled the hole through the cam cover.

It certainly is.

There’s nothing lighter than a hole

It’ll be full of oil (at times)

Ooooof. Spanky. It's been a while since I've seen one of them in the flesh.

Pass with no advisories. Boring.
Thought it has only 2,070 miles on it, up 35 from the previous MOT. Probably to the test centre and back.

Just watching an old episode of wheeler dealers. Porsche 928.
Complete respray. Refurb wheels... but put rusty old discs and bolts back on?!?!
There’s often shit like that on project builds that make me go crazy. Especially bolts. Fffffff

There's also the builds where you can clearly see shiny new discs and calipers which mysteriously don't get mentioned in the final costs breakdown.

Good job
I did have to hacksaw a spanner in half to undo the lower bolt.

I have got a lot of love for the old Lotus Elite. Really enjoyed this short film about it's design and production. Nice little window on 1970s auto design in context of oil crisis and three day week.
Some cracking facial hair to boot

Have a google and see what comes up.
What BQ said as prevention is better than cure. So check for loose injectors, and then maybe lift the cam cover and clean out any carbon build up. Clean the gauze out in the turbo feed pipe and reprime the pipe.
Then a few short oil and filter changes around 1k miles trying to do long journeys to actually get the hot oil circulating, I use purflux filters from GSF or french supermarkets and buy 25l of of the right spec mannol motor oil. Every other oil short oil change check the gauze in the turbo feed pipe as the idea is to remove the carbon build up already there.

The original elite or the mid 70's?
-
• #59193
Woah! I was a bit obsessed with the xj220 when I was a kid. Still hard to find something with a V6 that will go that fast. Slightly odd seeing one in a garage next to a Vauxhall Insignia.

Dude, he literally says 1970s in his post.
-
• #59195
Ha, cheers. There is a 1974 elite in the pic too

Mazda restarting production of MX5 NA parts, hope other manufacturers follow suit (and Mazda do the same with NBs)

I don’t like them dude. I love them. The only Lotus that does it for me. Of course I respect their racing history and all round pedigree

Wondering what panels are being remade. You can get the the three parts of the cills and the floor pan.

All respect to you, having had one...even the pop up lights...I am not a fan. Or do I have to type the story again? Part of me wonders who believes it and another part of me doesn't care.
Wasn't even that great on the road. Coming to the conclusion that I will never be able to afford an original elan.
