It's the UAE, they do what they want. Destroying this woman's passport was a way to make her obey her husband. He'd got a court order banning her from travelling. The Irish state's ownership of the passport is a trivial detail.

I obviously don't know what happened any more than anyone else on here, but some of the reports say it was her husband who ripped up her passport (and his, too, apparently), not the UAE.

Because influencers and grifters espouse it as a sign of "I'm doing alright".

I've had to fly through the middle east on my way to Europe since covid, I fucking hate it but flying through Asia is so much more expensive now. I don't feel good about this choice.
