  • Having a couple of those on each patrol boat to jetpack a marine or two over removes the need for a helicopter hovering prone above the boat you are intercepting so if they do open fire you lose one marine not a whole chopper crew. One dead not many dead is an improvement.

Also they are short range so I’d imagine the intention is to provide cover from the patrol boat if it is needed and board only when the target is already subdued.

  • Also, jet packs are cool.

  • Also, jet packs are cool.

I suspect this is the real reason.

  • Surely when the military make their own version they will have guns built in, that you can fire just by looking where you want to shoot.

    RoboCop styles.

  • Voice activated?

    “Hey Google Fire!”

Cue the sound of Win Butler wailing

  • Belgian parliament set to have a debate on Uighur genocide in China, suddenly Belgian institutions suffer a massive denial of service attack:

  • Didn't have a war with France over Jersey very high on my things likely to happen in 2021 list...

  • Feels like Jersey might have forgotten where most of their power comes from and whose waters the boats bringing them food pass through

  • Just said almost this same thing to mrs c00ps - definitely not on my 2021 apocalypse bingo card...

  • Just as well we spent all that money on an aircraft carrier and a few F-35 vtol jets.

  • .... and then sent them over to annoy China.

  • The decade that keeps on giving...

  • Don't forget the marines have jetpacks!

  • Thus far I have a single Marine in a jetpack.

  • That’s enough though, one whiff of how cool and impractical our soldiers are will have them flying their whitest nightshirts from the masts by the cool early dawn light.

  • Boris de-escalates the Jersey-France standoff by sending the Royal Navy in... maybe next the French navy will pop up for a visit to remind the RN that they should be in Jersey waters or international waters but to GTFO of French waters. What could possibly go wrong

  • It’s 200 years after the death of Napoleon, they have statues (at least one) going up. Of course it’s time to go to war with France, this is what Brexit was paving the way for.

  • My cynical side thinks this is the perfect side show story for both Macron and Johnson.

All the news coverage can get super in depth about the history of the CI's and do comparison pieces with the 70s.

Should hopefully get a week or two out of it. Definitely enough to make it to the weekend and fill up the Sunday papers.

  • My cynical side thought it’s the Tories playing the old sabre rattling card the night before an election.

  • Shocking analysis, this is the real deal, dazzle paint and jet packs at the ready. Time to fix bayonets and ransack Pret.

  • It's a bit of a small rusty cock to get out of the trousers and wave around though isn't it?

  • That too. Although it couldn't have happened without the French.

Fingers crossed that energy security gives Jersey the push it need to move to RE.

  • Did anybody else find the early BBC position on the Jersey thing about cringe last night?

Protest organisers: we're going to sail to st helier but will not be blockcading the harbour.

Protestors: we've sailed this to at helier and are protesting but don't worry, we're not planning on blockading the harbour.

BBC: BrAvE BorIs senDs iN the NaVy to SToP fRenCh bLockADe

They've hugely toned it down overnight I see.

  • Protest organisers: we're going to sail to st helier but will not be blockcading the harbour.

    Do you have a link?

Even Reuters use blockade in their headlines.

    https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/france-threatens-turn-lights-off-jersey-over-brexit-fish-row-2021-05-05/

  • No because it was corrected after an hour or two.

That Reuters article is a bit wrong also, no? There was talk about potential cut of power (not from anybody with credible power to do this) but everybody involved in the protest were clear that there was no intention to blockade.
