  • Picked up this during summer and never got round to tidying it up. Frame seems in top condition & parts although barely used have a little storage corrosion.

Its clear its going to be too big for me anyhow, was thinking of stealing the dynohub for my other bike and selling this as a frameset?

It has some really nice details & parts like the fancy milremo stem. Will look awesome buffed up.

I showed the bike to a Coventry based bike collector, who seemed certain the frame was 60's as he was familiar with the badges/lugs - Tom Bromwich was using at particular times.

Anyhow, this rare complete barely used classic tourer could really be a great bike for someone.

I have even bought some new alloy 27" rims to replace the steel ones (which just need a clean if you dont mind the weight.)
The rear wheel even has a flip-flop fixed-free hub!

Anyone interested at all? This bike will be way too big for me and itll be next summer till I get round to working on it.

Dude that thing is killer. Super cool bike. Is it 22" or 23"? Shit, I might take that off yer hands.

Awesome - what size frame did you say?

  • size/price cuntbag.

jack i'm bringing the rucks mid February, get ready now.

  • Have to express an interest but these are nice...

What frame is that, can't see the decals.

  • A Rotrax.

  • Pics son! Those are some strong words about a classic british tradition there man. Why were the wraparounds a bad idea?

Holdsworth claimed that they made the seat stays stronger. I don't know if Falcon did, but I imagine so.

Reynolds reckoned that doing such a thing to 531 actually weakened the tubes considerably.

Edit: some nice pics of a Falcon here: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/Peter-Kohler-Cycle-Collection/falcon/
    And the Mistral here: http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/v/Peter-Kohler-Cycle-Collection/Holdsworth/

  • Jack Taylor for the win... They were one of the few UK builders to follow the French Constructeur tradition. I love mine.

read more about them here: http://www.blackbirdsf.org/taylor/

  • I'm loving this thread so much

And can I just say, I'm a 53-54cm, if you have a bike like this to get rid of as you're injured, broke, generous or have lost interest in cycling

  • I'm totally bumming on the no us shipping of most shit on uk ebay too. Goddamn lazy as limey and their not wanting to pack crap. grrr.

That's our ever so gentlemanly, and non confrontational, way of getting back at the US of A for coming over here and sleeping with our women. With their charming ways and promises of chewing gum and silk stockings...grrr back atcha ;)

Don't make me come over there and give a whole new meaning to VJ day. I'll do it, I shit you not.

The Taylor is lovely btw. Truly.

    BJC
Yep aint that Mather bike amaaaazing.

  • Do it in reverse - have their ladies shipped over here

  • size/price cuntbag.

    .

    ...and I love you too.

Ill measure it up tomorrow. Pricewise, the coventry bike historian/collector bloke (who Ive boought nice bikes off for £10) liked it lots, and said I shouldnt let it go for less than £120.

Does sound fair? although it looks a little grimey and the wheels have rusted a bit, the bike really is barely used & has imacculate frame. The only damage on it is the rear mudguard. I did want to keep the rack & dynohub, but if anybody is keen on the bike we can work something out.

I dont live in London, so id have to bring it down for a sale.

    Please, No!

  • Damn dude that black and yellow taylor is so sexy.

  • Flo, seriously check out velo-orange.com. The dude is unreal in that shop with repro racks and fucking weird, rad misc shit (japanese sound bells muffukkah!)

unfortunately i already know velo-orange, rivbikes and the likes (i collected all kinds of links on another computer). the thing is, i live in austria, not the US, nor UK. over here i get nothing but overpriced shit from overseas...

as i won't be able to get my hands on a nice british frame (skully and 128, those bikes are beauties!!) i'm going to build up an austrian frame that i got for free:

    reynolds (531)

    my plans so far:

    • copper plating + original graphics
    • 3gear-fixed hub from sturmey archer
    • son- hub dynamo
    • maybe a moustache bar
      -...

no idea what/where to get: saddle bag (à la nigel smythe); front rack, that allows brakes and doesn't look shite

  • You should really try to grab a fork with canti and rack mounts. It'll make your life a lot easier, promise. I have some of that stuff and I'm wishing I had more. I'll up some pics later. You know, once I actually finish the bike and take them...

What size is the frame and roughly how many notes are you looking for?

  • also not very easy to find... surly makes one tho

The Surly fork won't that frame cos it's 1 1/8" threadless. You might be better off starting with a touring frame that has canti mounts and eyelets and clearance for mudguards.
