  • Cheers bud

  • what rpm can you hit with that?

    Depends what road??? 80/90

  • Whatever road you like. Just wondering if it is even physically possibly to spin out on such a thing, or even get into a comfortable cadence on anything other than a descent.

You could spin out down muck lows , don't know if you would brake in time for roundabout tho!!
Fairly comfortable cadence on most roads in brum, I tend to use it on longer runs tho! It's cool when it's up and running.
    Have raced on bigger!!!

  • Interesting.

  • I'm going to go ahead and assume it's something like 56/14 (but please correct me) which means you're doing 28.1mph at 90rpm. Fair play if you're keeping that up.

Alternatively you just like pedalling slowly, which is fine.

  • 18 on the back Dan, 18's are the same size as most HF hubs.

    Close............it's 57/16
And yep, can get a move on when roads allow.....as you say pedal slower round town / uphill, but it's a good workout for legs.
Race wise it's about right for me, pb 10 is 20 min

  • Maybe I should rock that gearing for work one day. See how long I last!

  • 57/16........ it's a good workout for legs.......

    Sorry, its not.
Its patella displacement waiting to happen.

That's a race gear, and any *training *on the bike shouldn't be on a 57/16.

    Just my opinion.

  • It would be lifting weights that are to heavy for you...

  • Well clearly its not too heavy for him. Respect where respect is due, bow down to the king of gear ratios.

Obree's (abandoned) hour bike which he used for training on the street had 67x13. So clearly some people can handle it, for those who can 57x16 probably is a sensible everday ratio.

Each to their own, my knees are fine thanks. I normally race with a 60 up front. I have ALLWAYS ridden big gears...........it's all relative to the individuals strength........enjoy your ridding whatever gear you choose

  • Popped down to Birmingham for a few days to see the mrs, only moments after jumping in the saddle and pulling out of the station passed a very smiley fella on a black Dolan just in front of the Zara where the bull is bout 14:00ish today

Apologies I didn't acknowledge till too late, was busy wondering where the fuck I was and how in gods name I get to Selly Oak from city centre on't bike!

  • that was me ya dick ;)

  • Ha nice to meet you sir! Do you do a weekly ride out down here?

  • No but we could.

  • No we don't, I don't think anyone rides here anymore.

  • Fixies died a few years back but nobody was cool enough to transition to NOS 70s road bikes.

  • That's a shame, although I definitely almost died a lot of times so can perhaps see why... Dem roundabouts.....

The highlight of my tour de Birmingham was ending up on that 5-lane fucker of a motorway after taking a tunnel too far....

Thought I was going to end up on the M6

  • Aston Expressway, you mad man!

  • Aston expressway on a bike?! Haha, fun!

  • There are plenty of people who ride fixed still, I know of 5 including my self! Maybe we should arrange a Birmingham ride to Stratford or something!?

  • Not Brum but not that far away - a few of us who ride fixed have just started riding together and trying to do a few events in Lichfield, the other end of the cross city line. Planning an alleycat in July, plus other rides. Not doing bike polo, but might come down and see how you do it sometime.
