  • You may have heard of Cycle Speedway, you may have heard of Archie Wilkinson who sell frames & complete bikes.

I had a look at their frames recently they are pretty good, and only £70 brand new!

Or £100 with a straight bladed fork. - For the steel. Or £199 for an aluminum frameset, which are very nice and in a wide range of colours.

Here is a picture of the standard large size speedway frame built up as a road bike. Makes for a nice bike I must say. The forks pictured are raked ones which are not yet available (but can be with demand), the speedway ones are straighter and make for very tight clearance. The BB height is 290 with 700x23 wheel & tyres, which makes it very suitable as a fixed wheel bike.

    More details here: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread11487.html

    and here: http://www.archie-wilkinson.co.uk/contact.html

  • i remember us all clucking over these a while ago and gasping at the painful vids of the speedway.
£70 is awesome for a hack etc. temptation beckons!

  • I think this is the brand that a team had as their polo specific bikes at the Shoreditch tourney. WITH bendy seattubes!

    HHPB's here we come!

  • That shop is well cheap. On the complete bikes page theres a 24" wheel version, could be a bit stronger than 700s and be good for tricks/polo. The norm for these bikes is freewheel right?

  • there aluminium frame looks pretty trick too, its stiffer & lighter. Maybe worth Considering.

Its a bit dearer though at £205 frame only, £250 with chrome fork. Still good compared to other things on the market though.

  • That ali frame is pretty sweet. I have emailed to try and get some more details of the 24" bike.
I have been looking at getting a 24" cruiser bmx as i find i hardly ride my 20" bmx anymore because im so used to a larger frame and being able to pedal sitting down etc.
The 24" complete bike they do is cheaper than most 2nd hand bmx cruisers iv seen on ebay.

  • What is the rear tyre clearence like room for 28 mm tyres? Maybe 32 mm tyres with the wheel set back abit?

  • Thats one of the things i asked about the 24" bike, what tyres come with it and whats clearance like for larger tyres. Will post what they reply.

  • d_f_p, that's a seriously good call.

Cheap, AND from a knowledgeable proprietor.

  • No reply yet but loooking at the rest of the site, they sell tyres that are 1 3/8 so thats around 35mm. That is on a 26" wheel though. Hmm does that mean that the frame and forks would be correctly sized for a 700/650 lo pro type bodge?

Note, they also sell padded bike bags for £69 and unpadded ones for £39.

  • I spoke to them last week about ordering one. the 26" wheel version will take a 700c but only with a 23 or maybe 25 tyre. Any bigger and you will get pedal overlap!! (apparently)

They come free wheel only on the complete, so would need a wheel rebuild to go fixed. Not a bad price though really. Think I might order one for a play around, tricks, try to learn to play polo, leave outside, hit with a stick, hearl abuse at, type bike.

99 quid gets you f+f plus headset, seat post clamp and the dude said 'probably a seat post too'.

@DFP - Why did you repost this in a new thread, couple of hours after posting it in the archie wilkinson thread?

  • I'd stay away from using the word "probably" if I were you gizmond.
It incurs the wrath of Thor, or plain "Tynan" to me and you.

Whether you get toe overlap and what size tyres fit are two different things, hell my road bike has toe overlap

  • Quote marks added, so now the dude at archie wilikinson with incur the wrath instead.

    :-)

  • From this photo it looks like you could fit 32 mm tyres, it would depend on the chainstays.

  • Whether you get toe overlap and what size tyres fit are two different things, hell my road bike has toe overlap

Read it again. With 28 tyres on 700 wheels you will have PEDAL OVERLAP on their standard cranks and pedals, on their speedway frame and fork.

  • ^ would depend on the fork you run.

  • Not gonna quote myself, just direct you to the line above.

Anyway, its just what the dude at archie wilkinson said

  • I'm only just learning to read ok!
I would not have thought anyone would want to run the speedway fork though as it's zero rake (or very small). Interesting though.

  • I have emailed to try and get some more details of the 24" bike.

Looks like the kind of bloke/web site that you have to ring rather than email TBH.

  • They just emailed me back. rear spacing is 110mm on the complete bike (taking it this is a standard for speedway?) it comes set up with a freewheel and with 40mm wide tyres but they say that 47mm will fit so thats around 1.8". Im really considering buying one and selling my bmx.

I just mailed too and they got back within 10 mins.

  • Just got this back from the guys there for their large Speedway. Perhaps a little too small for my original plan of a sit-up-and-beg gentleman's fixed gear (at just shy of 6'), but perhaps someone will find this helpful:

Our frame specs are as follows:

Seat tube length 53cm (centre of bottom bracket - top of seat tube)
Top tube 55cm (centre to centre)
Headtube length 10cm ( 1" fork is correct)
Chainstay length 42.5cm (centre of bottom bracket - centre of track end)
    Drop outs 110mm
Bottom bracket height 290mm with 700c x23mm tyres.

The frame is a cro-moly tube and is available in black or red.

Price without fork is £70 plus £20 delivery (to London), by TNT.

  • Just watched a video of Cycle Speedway online. It's nuts.
