Short reach nutted front brake

Posted on
  • Does anyone know if these exist? Basically my forks are drilled for a traditional nutted 6mm brake, but the reach needs to be little (about 40mm). I can't really drill the back hole on the fork to 8mm to fit an allen key recessed bolt as there isn't enough meat on the fork and the bottom headset race is really low...

  • What I did was use the Dia Compe short reach brack and used a nylock inside the fork.

  • i was thinking about that, it sounds a little unsafe due the turing forces on the bolt (as it's only mounted at one point), but i might give it a shot

  • I think my bolt goes into the rear hole (ooer) so is more stable. The place I read about it (maybe Sheldon's site) said despite it looking dodgy it's OK.

  • I had this trouble about 2 weeks ago with a recessed bolt, If you cant get a traditional bolt you could allways opt for an m6 recessed bolt, just type something like "brake bolt" in to ebay, your sure to find something once your past all the listings for disk rotor bolts.

if youve no luck, pm me and i can dig you out a link for a supplier i ordered one from the other day
