I was riding around at 2am insomniac style and I came across what would be an awesome circuit for a Devil race. It's around a shopping centre called gracechurch and about 3/4 of a mile long, a minimum of two lanes all the way round, sometimes three, the whole thing is one way and at night early in the week, it's completely deserted, and there are a few places that are like run in ramps to start a race, so does anyone wanna race there?
BTW I forgot to say that this is in Sutton Coldfield.
I'd be up for that, Sutton isn't too far from me.... I know where you mean and can kinda see it would be cool if quiet, though you do get a fair number of boy racers racing round there after chucking out time as well....
ye I know, hence early in the week and quite late
tip: practice cornering fast, and sprinting as fast as poss on short straights. also work on your endurance at high levels of effort. due to the nature of elimination races, the more people enter, the more laps you will have to do.
the circuit ive decided on is pretty short, which is why i said practice fast cornering and short distance sprinting. may change though... was thinking of birmingham uni at first but decided against it cos of security worries. got kicked off there nuff times when bmxing /photographing. might get away with it but i dont wanna take the risk.
i might even chuck in a few paced laps (i.e. you follow a rider round the track, are not allowed to overtake him/her but may overtake your fellow racers to get the best position), if there aren't more than 10 peeps showing up. i dont want it being too short, so 5 pace laps will make it a bit longer, build up a bit of suspense by allowing you guys to jostle for position behind me/someone else.
in addition to the elimination race i might add a keirin race. all depends how many prizes the sponsors supply.
i hope at least 7 fixies turn up... even if only 5 turn up it should be ok though.
I have checked on the train timetable and the last train leaves at 11.45 from sutton to new street and then the next train isn't until 6.15, so basically getting the train back is out of the question because we'd need to be racing at about midnight or later to avoid the traffic. Is anyone up for this anyway?
I might well pop along for the Halloween Devil, at least to watch, may end up riding.
I'm more used to riding fixed on the track than the road, so what gear would you recommend ?
72" or less
By the way there's no point not entering. It's not going to cost you anything to enter and the worst that can happen is that you come last on the first lap, which means you get to sit out and watch anyway.
I'm only on bou 68 atm. 42x18! I'm gonna upgrade before friday
