  • They're pub lights really, which means mine get a lot of use...

  • did you check out the Toads?

yeah i did, unfortunately the one on display in BLB was splitting on the strap, so that kinda put me off, having said that has any seen a better price for this set... Knog Toad & Gekko Front and Rear Lighting Set: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure

Does anyone have the toad/bullfrog set? Been thinking about getting some

  • it's just useful to be seen by other really, not to see what's ahead.

we're in London after all, the sky don't go black at night, just orange.

believe me, when you drive a car at night, it's incredibly hard to spot cyclists unless they have very powerful lights.

these things just make you legal, not safe.

  • The toad is a good front light as any for the price, the frogs arent up to much as a solo front, but work well on the rear

+1 Try driving a car at night in the rain and you will see how poor the viability is.

  • +1 for drivers not seeing you with small lights, nearly got taken out this morning on a mini roundabout. The car driver looked really shocked when he realised I was there. Last year I bought a set of twin lamps from SJS cycles powered via a small motorbike sized battery slung on the top tube. It is a bulky and heavy but will run for 2.5 hours on a full charge on one lamp and 1.5 hours on both. You need to be regimented with the charging, I usually do it each morning when I get into work. But they work great and with both lamps on you look like a scooter approaching. They also work great out in the suburbs where some roads aren't lit so well. They cost me £40. Will be putting them back on my handlebars very shortly I think.

  • totally gutted as i missed a chance to get the hope vision 1 for £63 a couple of days ago from wiggle, it's now back up to £72

  • those hopes are ideal.

people should be looking to spend at least £70 on a front light, 240 lumens is excellent at that price.

with the added bonus of having a decent light for the DD and being able to ride in places where there are no street lights

  • agreed, I bought one of them hope beauties - well worth the money.
I've noticed that traffic at night is a lot more aware of you with one of these..especially at roundabouts

  • Check the Knog Gekko's.
Selling like hot cakes @ Bf
    3x LED - Plenty bright!

  • I just bought a Knog Bullfrog for £16 inc P&P off of ebay, it's a black one too (Joe). I have one of those ridiculous 57 LED lights from ebay on my tourer, VERY visible, doesn't light much up though, you can see it reflecting off the road signs and number plates for miles down the road. Although it looks ridiculous, is huge and rattles. i bought it when drunk, ebay should come with a breathalyser.

Ah sheeeeet. I was waiting til payday to get that one. Balls!

  • I'm gonna get me a Blackburn Mars 3.0 to clip on me bag. Saw someone using one this evening. Blinding! And bloody cheap too.

  • my bullfrog is playing up. doesn't like any pressure on the back of the light where the batteries are.... which sucks as that's the side that presses on the seat post.... bah! new light time. :(

  • check out the gekkos

  • check out the gekkos

    Are they all that?

I'm looking for a 2xAAA solution, but like the sound of the forthcoming skinks with low battery (25%) indicator, and 4 LEDs.

Does anyone know when the skinks will be available in the UK?

  • The distributor told me late November, for both fronts and rears. Wiggle have the rears on their site - also says expected late November.

Thanks for the heads up, looks like waiting a month then!

  • i can't stand these things..... hipster hemeroids if you ask me!

  • Got sick of the frogs- shit light and break really quickly. But like how you don't need a bracket, so can swap between bikes. Got a pair of gekkos at the start of the year and they are still going strong.

  • Isn't it 'hipster cysts'?

Multiple bikes, different clamping sizes, urban riding, regular short stop outdoor parking; low battery indicator, waterproof, flashing modes, low weight - what's not to like?

  • i just find them quite offensive in general.
    no particular reason.
