  • rugged and raw mate..

  • @ blankface, sorry mate i was replying to davidjohnclap!!

As for being stoked on riding, that is the key!! My first fixed will be finished tomorrow, and i just cannot wait. It's been sat in our workshop for about 4 months. Been adding each component week by week. So satisfying to watch it come together. Building your own bike is loads of fun, but riding it must be something else......we'll see!!!!

  • A few spots from the last few days....

Saturday - top of park street quite a few of you locking bikes up

Today - Red frame, purple deep v's outside fishponds morrisions

Today - Park street coming down...

  • this morning on the glos road just by the polish church.. one guy heading into town, orange hood and blue ortlieb roll top bag. nice sneaking through traffic and got to the front of the rest of the cycling bunch. the other guy honking up the road away from town with a blue beanie and a serious look on his face. i was in my van. driving at rush hour is an a hole. i rarely do it and every time i do i am amazed by the suckers who do it everyday. what a soul sucking experience. it was warm though with my heater on...

  • it was warm though with my heater on...

not so rugged and raw now, eh? :-)

  • Touché

  • very briefly spoke to a dude who came into the shop (BIKE UK) today, he was on a black unipack which (un)surprisingly needed the crank bolts changing after 1 day of riding.
I was pretty busy however, didn't have time to mention I rode fixed.
    anyone here?

  • Just registered on here, I think I might have seen one or two people off here around. Got talking to a couple of guys riding brakeless on Saturday morning at A Fair Cup on the centre - one black Bob Jackson (not midnight blue, PJ!) and another no name bike whose owner is currently building up a Holdsworth.

I'm currently on my fully wintered up bright red Raleigh with drops, both brakes, guards and dynamo lighting.

  • Spotted a fixed rider in 5050, exchanged nods.
Nice looking black lugged track frame with cream lug lining (possibly bob jackson) chrome nitto drops with white tape on the top, white padded leather top tube protector, front brake.

Twas me. Sorry I didn't stop for a chat, I was in a hurry. Nice ride you were rockin though. Got mad respect for all the people riding brakeless around Bristol, the hills would scare the shit out of me!

  • saw a bike in bristol bike workshop today was a sirius wasn't in rideable condition i might add, but it had my old bars on it that i left in there anyone on here?

No probs boss. really really sick looking bike.
    It is a Bob right?

  • Saw another unipack outside sainsburys clifton down at around 4-oclock, blue frame, yellow rims, red chain. They're breeding!

  • saw a Green SS with risers at my uni today (uwe, bowerashton) didnt catch many details as i was just passing!

Nah man. I really don't know what it is. Budget halfords paint job!!!

  • Thanks though!

  • It was dark, but I caught a flash of a white frame and a metallic green deep V, messenger bag with a light. 5.45 crossing the Gloucester road up Berkeley. Shout!

  • saw another black unipak today with red rims at about 4.25pm, by ted baker in cabbot circus the forks were bent in 20 directions! no im joking actually.

popd into american apparel with alex in search of djc but didnt realise it was your day off

  • I saw DavidJohnClapp, James and two others powering up the gloucester road earlier this evening, who was at the back with a rear mudguard?

  • I spotted them too riding through the centre along rupert street, if you heard me david which i think you did i shouted do a skid and you did!

  • I'm fairly sure I saw Blankface in St Nicks farmers market last week with a lady, without a bike though identification at his level of unfamiliarity is tricky!

  • Nah mate, you must be mistaken!
have we met before? bond doesnt give much indication as to your name =]

  • Saw another unipack outside sainsburys clifton down at around 4-oclock, blue frame, yellow rims, red chain. They're breeding!

think i saw that one yesterday afternoon up near kingsdown

  • [quote=whatfriends;435041]as for single speed and front brake, ive said it before and i'll continue to say it. no no no no. its fucking unsafe and its not just you you put at risk. and in case people care, its against the law.quote]

This may well be me, I really don't want to start an argument but in my defence:

I don't think it's 'fucking unsafe' and I don't see how I'm putting anyone at risk.
I don't know why a bike set up inspires such strong negative feeling.

When I put my bike together I wanted it as simple as possible, one brake, one gear, that's it. I didn't put it together thinking, 'I really hope everyone thinks I'm riding fixed', I didn't put it together to be part of scene, I put it together to ride to work on, which I've been doing perfectly safely for over a year.

So my cable might snap? Yeah if I don't maintain it properly, there's more of a chance, but the chances as is are tiny. I notice people don't give the brakeless crew a hard time about their chains snapping?

I might go over the handlebars? Only if I'm shit at riding my bike, only if I don't look ahead and have to slam the brake on without warning. If I was riding fixed this would still be a problem.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not a fixed hater, in fact I have no problem with how you choose to ride your bike or what you ride. The fact is you're riding, fucking good on ya, brakeless bmx to granny shopper, I salute you!

Anyway, in an interesting plot twist, I'm fixing the falcon this week. Should be fun, got lights too!

  • but you cant do skids without a back brake!, besides, nothing personal, but I don't think your argument justifies only having a front brake. fair enough if you enjoy it and can pull it off though I guess?
I don't see why you don't just go fixed.
    keep riding.

  • True, but I haven't really done skids for fun since I was 11! Anyhoo, I'm not sure why I have to justify having only a front brake any more than you have to justify riding fixed, each to their own, I just don't like being told what to do!

I am going fixed though, but not because I think it's safer, I just fancy a change, the freewheel will stay on the other side of the flip flop for another time!

Anyway, I'm sure I'll see you guys around and we can agree to disagree, going on Friday?
