Having recently changed from randonneurs to marathon plus, randonneurs definitely do seem slippy to me.
I also found marathon plus harder to fit as well. -

Ha, I don't think he over oils the chain.
He actually said they're more slippy than the slicks on his road bike, so I guess that's just how they are. Gutted, I'm just about to buy some because I need hipster white.
Thanks for the info guys. -

Thanks for the info guys.Yes, they would be more slippy than road slicks. Due to tread which means less rubber on road and ability for tread 'blocks' to move around. Certainly can't hammer it around corners as confidently but then that doesn't happen much on a touring bike!

... & race tyres are made to stick. These are touring tyres and made to last.

I was gonna say, no need to look for the arrow on the sidewall, just look at the direction of the tread.
Shame about the swift resolution. I was half-hoping this would develop into an Ed-style desperate search for the directional arrows on the tyre, complete with swearing and multiple failed attempts. :)

what?? randonneurs and vittoria's in general use a fairly nice compound which grips pretty well. they are slippery when brand new, but after riding they are fine. bizarre!

Yep, they work for me too. But I think the problem here is they may be being compared to a slick race orientated tyre - apples and oranges and all that!

i raced crits on rubino's @140 psi, which to me run the same compound?? run 700x32 @ 70psi or 700x28 @ 80psi, stick like glue in wet as much as rubino's.

those big thumbs must be useful for something!

The rand grip just fine, it's just your friend who need to adjust his riding style, onc he does, the tyres will feel pretty predictable.

I get Mal to fit my tyres in case I break a nail..

and if he doesn't want to adjust his riding style don't use them!
Touring tyres do feel odd, especially Marathon Plus and especially cornering and some people may not want to live with that. I don't like it that much myself but as 50%+ of my riding is off road I would rather compromise the road part than be fixing a puncture every 10 minutes on the off road bits. Marathon Pluses also seem to grip well off road somehow, I reckon it's that squidginess allowing the rough surface to 'bite' into the tyre, probably.
If I rode 100% on road I would probably use a Refuse or something along those lines as a better compromise between grip/weight/puncture resistance.

Hipster tyre update required.
Where Parker Int getting some white 25's in mid Jan time?
None on their website.
I guess I'll have to decided to between 28's and Zaffiro Pro II 23's as I need these asap. -

I still wouldn't say they are particularly slippy though so not sure what would be wrong with the housemates.
Are they over oiling the chain and maybe oil getting on the tyres (a lot) ? :-)
