  • The Hounslow & District Wheelers is offering a prize for the fastest ride on fixed wheel in their open 25 mile time trial to be held on Sunday 21st September.
The course will be on the A31 road between Farnham and Alton. If there is any interest from LFW members there will be more information posted in August.

  • interested

  • definately interested.. any gearing restrictions?

  • interested. that is, if im allowed to go out and play

  • this sounds exciting, would love to see it.

I doubt I could manage a 3mile sprint though, so entering is poor idea.

  • Hillbilly's just lost a bit of weight; let's fill him with cider and send him along.

  • just up the road from me, and 25 miles is about my distance. i wonder what kind of time you'd need to be putting in to be in with a shout?

  • Probably as close to one hour as you could get. Cycling clubs often have very fast TT'ers.

  • yes, was just thinking that. but if very few fixed riders compete, then we're talking! depends how flat it is as well

  • looks very flat indeed, on google maps.

    hmm. 48:15 all the way..?

  • Averaging about 28, 52 15 at 100rpm for an hour fixed, count me out

  • Quite a few time trials for fixed are medium gears TT. 75 or 76 GI limit I think.

  • To manage an hour, you need gearing in the 90s unless you have uber fast legs surly?

  • the guys who do the 3 lap richmond park TT league thing do it in just under an hour..and that is about 20 miles, not 25

  • ...uber fast legs surly?

i don't know this bike. is it similar to the steamroller?

  • yes, was just thinking that. but if very few fixed riders compete, then we're talking! depends how flat it is as well

it's close to you, why not do a recce and time yourself?

TBH you'll probably come last if you're the only first timer

  • i probably will go and have a look at the course. although trying to ride along a big A road like that doesn't sound like much fun.

if i knew what the range of times people are expected to put in, then i'd have something to work towards.

  • no offence nimhbus but you're a marshmellow, all soft on the inside. man you'd bitch for the next week, thats if you even completed it.

  • none taken, squeaky.

  • i bet u £10 u can't do it under an hour!

  • I'm interested. What's the course profile?

  • click on sam's bikely link illy. elevation's there. you sure that's the exact course, sam?

undulating. how does that compare to RP?

  • i bet u £10 u can't do it under an hour!

That's the safest bet in the world. Make it a bit edgy, give him a chance.

  • Quite a few time trials for fixed are medium gears TT. 75 or 76 GI limit I think.

Medium gear TTs are 72" max (you often get people riding 20mm tyres in order to get a ratio as close to the max as possible). I always used 46x17.

And I did crack the hour once in a medium gear TT, and I think Zak Carr managed about a 53 once, which is fucking mental.
