Ha, I queued this morning... although only from 8am. I'm back in Basingstoke for the summer holidays so the queues weren't that big here compared to London.
The O2 store had an enourmous queue, about 40-50 people, then ran to the CPW and there were only 6 people. They had 3 16GB and 14 8GB. Settled for an 8GB.
It's awesome, I love it.

is this the one that costs £100? I take it that's £100 plus a contract, and not just for the handset itself?

The 8GB is £99 on a £35 per month contract. 600 minutes and 500 texts, plus unlimited internet and unlimited access to loads of wi-fi hotspots.
It might be even more than £300 on PAYG. It's not been announced yet, but it's going to be unbelievably expensive, and then you've got internet data transfer to pay for!

Yeah, that's what I thought.
I was paying £30 on Orange for 150 minutes and unlimited texts, and going well over my minutes which was really annoying, and sending about 500 texts. The internet is going to be really useful, too.

All jokes aside - once you use the iPhone, using anything else is fucking sub-par. People queue for anything desirable and wanted - some people will laugh and think 'what the fuck' if they see the amount of money & time we here spend on bikes. I camped out for trainers before...people do what they do...
I use Apple products in my profession and have been using the iPhone for a while - I wouldn't personally queue for it (upgrade is in the post!) but it is a very very very good product. Booking tickets, surfing properly anywhere is very helpful.
Theres alot of phones claiming to be 'iPhone killers' - n95 and various touch screen phones like the samsung and LG; I was using a friends nokia n95 recently, fuck me - it was horrible. Im very tech savy and able to use gadets and figure them out but seriously, no phone can have anything on the iPhone...

i was thinking the same thing. it just doesn't work with a fresh hip soundtrack.. they should re-do the iphone adds red background silhouetted fat man on an office chair browsing the interweb, iphone in other hand to the tune of pet shop boys west end girls

these people should be given a break. they would no doubt think half of the geekery on this forum is sadder than sad. while i wouldn't dream or spunking my money on such trinkets, let alone queue like this, it was probably the highlight of their weeks.

these people should be rounded up and humanely dealt with, more like.

Jesus wept, i just went onto Spacebook and this guy who I went to school with, who was always a complete dickjudge, has as his status "Xxxx Xxxxx is playing with some new iPhone apps". This is guy who once got suspended for getting aggro and destroying a vending machine.

Exactly. Just take a look at the members page and sort the number of posts. Some users have an unbelievable number; it's just as "sad" as queueing for an iPhone, getting up early to buy gig tickets, following a sports team religiously or whatever. People do what they are passionate about, and who are we to judge...

Again, I agree. The iPhone 3G may not have endless features which have never been seen before, but it's the way that Apple executes the features that makes the iPhone unique. For example, the way it connects to wifi networks is a million times simpler than the way Windows XP does! Text messaging, iChat-style, is great too.

Posting on here is quite a creative outlet. Waiting for a phone is fucking retarded.
Getting in early to buy tickets for a gig - often necessary. Waiting in line for a phone - retarded.
Following a sports team religiously - also retarded. Perhaps the two things are connected?
