just use cork pads ;)
-
• #3
with wings?
-
• #4
Don't worry if it's unmachined you can still run a brake with no ill effects. Machining rims is a new thing and largely to stop brake squeal on a new rim.

with wings?
are these the ones you prefer?
-
• #6
Of course.
-
• #7
but Seb said they were shit in the wet and just didnt work with brakes..
-
• #8
You believe Seb?
-
• #9
You believe dogs?
-
• #10
I was quite drunk at the time..
-
• #11
Why what happened? ;)
-
• #12
use normal pads then
-
• #13
I use normal pads on my unmachined deep v's, they are fine, no squeel at all now :)
-
• #14
after being hit by a blue sticker cunt on sat on the way to Em's party, Seb then put the fear in me when I said I was going to put an unmachined rim on the front, as someone who cant skid for toffee I need my front brake to at least vaguely work in the wet.
I dont care if they squeal as long as I can still stop!EDIT: Maybe I should HTFU

• #15
what hub you gonna build it too clefty?
-
• #16
have you watched seb ride next to cabs, he actually tries to get run over. sorta like hippy, but i think thats a gravity issue, like how the moon hugs the earth.
-
• #17
was going to lace it to my phil that i already have on the front that currently has a CXP33 on it
-
• #18
do it, do it, b a slave!
-
• #19
Ok I'll HTFU and get over it.
but if I die in a horrific wet weather brake fail accident I'm sueing you all! Thanks boys.
-
• #20
Just sue dogs.

I ride an unmachined front rim and it's.... fun? It's decently dangerous since I tend to ride too fast, not pay attention have to slam on my brake and realize "oh crap..." when I don't y'know.. stop.
plus any bit of moisture on the ground turns my bike into a brakeless fixie.
cork pads are for carbon rims.
-
• #22
oh man, now i have the fear again..
-
• #23
cork pads are for carbon rims.
which have a clear coat and are used to not damage the rim, but still work fine! -

like most of these things, there's always two differing sets of experiences..
I don't know, personally it wouldn't bother me, but if you rely on your brake I'd sell it and get a machined one. if you're going through the hass of re-building the wheel, might as well be safe and sure .
esp in this weather
unless someone can come along and tell you they've tried both and there's no difference

Brakes are good. Don't let any posers tell you otherwise.
When it's pissing down, your emergency skid stop is going to take about a week..Whatever brakes you use, if you are slowing down with 'em, scuff the excess water off the rims with a light dab before fulling applying 'em.
