  • I think 'Saxondale' might be confusing seat tube with seatpost ?

    and 'external' with 'internal' ?

  • Take your bike. Put it and any left over components in a job sale on ebay for a minimum sum (Low price to reflect your inability to answer any technical questions which may arise) and then give up the dream of ever owning and or running anything more complicated than slip on trainers.

  • jaygee came up with a foolproof method. try this:

fill seatpost with sand until it reaches the required height. then insert seatpost. perfect.

i think i may try this on my pink bike...since i've seem to have lost some weight in my frame. thanks PJ youre a gem.

  • i like slip on trainers. and i dont want to sell the bike i just wanna ride it. its not comlicated.

  • would that work? really? or are you joking/

  • ^^^ i have the skills required for this, saxon if you need a hand let me know...

well saxon you just need a shim... how much wobbling is there when you put you seat tube in place? if a gap is clearly visable you may need to take it to local bike shop to get a new seat post.

    +1

If the post goes in but is a little loose or wants to slip down - find a decent shim (I have shimmed many posts with thin beer can material cut to size)

If the post goes in but is 2 or 3 mm out (there is a 2 or 3 mm gap between the seatpost and seat tube) you need a new post.

    by shim:

you can use a can of coke (or similar) to wrap around you seat post and jamm into the seat tube...
you need to cut the can so it is in a sheet form... ie cut the top and bottom off. You can do this with scissors. you dont need to glue it you just need to get the wrapping thickness right, so its snug. then tighten the nut and you my friend are riding! if you have the wheels and other stuff sorted that is.

all this...give this a go and see... you might find that you will be able to ride your bike

  • I've just typed out a long reply then lost it. Bo11ox.
    @Saxondale please answer this question.

Does the seatpost you have fit into your frame and wobble around or is it too big to fit into your frame?

The needle, finger, cotton thing was an analogy.

  • You have mis understood the man. His seat post is bigger than his seat tube. He needs to buy a new seat post possibly from decathlon or BLB which it's self may require shimming.

  • ok. last question please. .

is there any way i can get rid of the seatpost altogehter and fix the saddle to the top of the tube, maybe usign the bolt thats there. this way i dont need an inveerse shim or a seatpost.

    has anyone done this?

  • lol - bloody brilliant thats a great idea...would save shit loads of trouble

Of course it depends on the compatability of your feet and you may require a positive shim to make them fit correctly, these are generally referred to ask "socks" in the industry.

  • ... don't get drawn in . .

This is the news I have been waiting for, a trainer in a sock form.

Why not get rid of the saddle too...

  • but that would mean that.....oooo nasty

  • I've an idea - why don't you get a seat post that has a larger internal diameter than the outside diameter of your seat tube and slide it over the top? That'll work for sure.

  • You have mis understood the man. His seat post is bigger than his seat tube. He needs to buy a new seat post possibly from decathlon or BLB which it's self may require shimming.

Thats what I thought but then we went to Y is bigger than X or summat which mean't that the seatpost needed shimming. I think I'm gonna give up and just carry on reading this thread as it unfolds further, for light relief!

    Peace
